I've never been much of a suit man. I have one black suit for interviews, funerals and weddings, I have a grey blazer and a boating jacket that cost me £10 of the internet. I'm pondering getting another for semi-formal and celebratory occasions. Maybe I'll change my whole style and become a suit man. Do all suits need to be dry cleaned?

You can get machine-washable ones. I've no idea if they end up looking like a pair of pyjamas after a couple of washes BTW.

Most suits are dry clean only. Even if they claim to be machine washable, I would expect that dry cleaning them will keep them looking nicer. Suits only need dry cleaning every now and then (unless you're particularly careless). I wear suits fairly often and I get mine dry cleaned every 10 "wears" or so to keep them looking nice

I’ve always bought my suits from M&S as Corbyn and many others do, quality is good. I guess they are less popular today due to changing fashion. Most quality ones need dry cleaning and keep their shape better.
If you want to be taken seriously wear a suit.

That's me stuffed then. ^_^

Never liked them despite spending around 30 years wearing them on a daily basis.

Im going to tear down my own argument here as I always used to wear a suit during my years in business but latterly I saw the people i was giving presentations to like architects, designers and other professionals were dressed in a more casual fashion. I was trying to establish a relationship so I adopted a style more like theirs and maybe they became more accepting of me, I don’t know.

You take your cues from both what the people your meeting/working with wear and also the expectations of the people you meet as to what they think you should wear

When I'm meeting people or working with them, I try to suss their culture and fit in. Met a couple of guys yesterday who are very casual dressers (despite being fairly big shot business men) so I wore casual gear. Meeting some others next week who are far more formal so I'll need to wear a suit. May get away without a tie though

Teaching is very old fashioned. We recently had a new 6th form building constructed. You could spot the male architects etc a mile off because they had much nicer suits and none of them wore ties. Male teachers can't get away without a tie.

I have never been a suit or tie person despite working in an office for 10 years where tie wearing was the norm, I never wore one, the snide comments were water of a ducks back, the most useless piece of clothing invented, I have a suit and ties that I have worn for special occasions to fit in, but felt I was doing it because that's what was expected not because I wanted to.

I've had a couple of occasions in life when I've been wearing a suit and I've been taken for somebody a lot more important and influential and I've realised that wearing a suit and with sufficient brass neck, you could get away with anything.

Or as a rather dodgy 'businessman' who I knew in London told me: "A grey suit will never let you down."

He was the only guy I've known to have a minder/driver - there was some truth in that telly series.

You can never match the quality of the M and S suite. Get one in Christmas sale.
Same for their white shirts
Although it is sold as machine washable, I will still dryclean them.
