Go to a Paul Smith shop, try 'em on, then look on Ebay. I have 5, all I have to pay when they arrive is £20 to have the sleeves shortened and I've not paid more than £100 for any of the suits. I do have an M&S suit and it's great for funerals and stuff but I am not going on a night out in it, it's the little details.........I have so many suits I'll be dead before one needs cleaning.

Suits got nothing to do with it. If you need to work out how serious anyone is look at their shoes.

This ^^^^

A little story......I worked with a client from Asia. He came to London and decided he wanted a bespoke suit. I took him to a suitable place and he walked out three grand lighter. I suggested to him that he should get some shoes to complement the suit (it would be posted to him a couple of months later). He said he was fine for shoes

Fast Forward...I'm visiting him in Asia. He is wearing the suit, and to be fair, it looks really great. But the shoes.....how best to describe......utilitarian? Completely ruined the look. Wasted three grand.

I wear Loakes'...can't afford Church's

I don't wear one very often, only if I feel I really have to but I find that when I do, staff in shops, cafes, bars etc tend to be more attentive and call me sir!

Can’t go wrong with Loakes.

I rarely need to wear a suit (or choose to) and by the time I dig it out of the wardrobe again it looks old-fashioned. Recently however, I decided I'd like to wear one more often, so I bought a really nice one. For £10. From Oxfam:smile:

My mother works as a volunteer at a BHF shop, I give her a ride home, whilst waiting for her a few weeks ago I spotted a suit, it stood out a mile. They usually hold back quality labels and list them on Ebay, as do most charity shops. It wasn't my size but was a mohair/wool navy blue/silver pin striped Paul Smith £500+ suit for £19..99!

I wear one every day, I've a couple of dozen. A work trip took me to Sri Lanka a few years back. I had a few made to measure made along with some shirts. Omg...there is no comparison to an off the peg . Worked out to about £300 for 2 cashmere suits and 4 cotton shirts. The culture at work seems to be changing now, it seems to be jackets and jeans...

...although i think i'd look quite dapper in a safari suit.

I must admit, I've always owned good quality suits, Slaters being my supplier of choice. I have long since noted the overall decline in wearing a good suit and even as mentioned earlier fewer and fewer guys seem to polish their shoes before presenting themselves to a client or employer. I reckoned it always gave me a bit of an edge in some business situations as some people seemed to take me a bit more seriously when I drove to meetings in a nice car and quality suit. Sad I know, but people will make a lot of decisions about you based on the car you drive and what you look like.

I've got a couple of suits, don't wear them very often though as I don't wear them for work.

I do like wearing them, I look really fscking good in a suit.

I do look better in a suit than in most clothes.

A really good suit won’t need cleaning that often (unless you’re a complete slob) and any minor spills can be dealt with by a damp cloth and a warm iron.

A couple of tailor-made suits can last a lifetime and they don’t have to cost a fortune.

This in spades .

If I wear a suit people notice as I scrub up pretty well.

I have a very nice mid blue suit from high and mighty ( big shoulders mean it’s either bespoke or I have to go to s shop that understands different shapes) that turns heads when worn .

Shoes are important too. The name is irrelevant but they should be Goodyear welted.

A nice pair of Derbys will work with jeans too.

For just with a suit then you can’t beat a good Oxford . https://www.ties.com/blog/mens-dress-shoe-guide

All men look better in suits. They are designed to broaden the shoulders and slim the waist. My youngest son often wears a suit (he has about 6) and because he is 19 and slim he can get away with suits from Primark.
The less "ideal" your figure, the more money you should spend - it's worth it!

Speaking of made to measure suits, if you do find yourself in a part of the world where tailoring is cheap, I would heartily recommend this

I was in Asia and had a couple made to measure. The vast majority of the cost is labour so their "entry level" was £200 and their best material suit were about £350 (this was about 10 years ago though). I bought three of their top end suits (wool/cashmere blend cloth woven in England amazingly enough). Having seen the London bespoke suit experience, I didn't get that but I got probably 90% of it for 10% of the price

Fortunately due to cycling, I'm the same shape as I was 10 years ago and the suits still look great and fit far better than my off the peg suits I also own
