[QUOTE 3852309, member: 45"]Meh. Drivers don't expect lights like this on a helmet, and will be distracted trying to work out what's going on. By which time you're probably dead.

and miss the opportunity to widen the vocabulary of some of our more elderly CCers? Chill yer beanz

I'm rather tickled that 'meh' has created such excitement!

May I also introduce 'boh' which is an Italian way of saying 'whatever' and must be accompanied by a shrug and a look of nonchalance!

I'd be interested in one with proper flip-out trafficators, like what cars had in the 40s. That would be cool, or is that kewl?

Are there any adverts for any helmet that make any claim for the performance as a helmet?

Presumably the material that would absorb impact is removed to make space for the batteries, lights, circuitry etc

Less material = less energy absorption, and unless much bigger then a normal helmet the material looks as if it will be very thin on key areas

Then finally the question is what happens to all this solid hardware on an accident... do you find the electrics forced trough a thin layer of foam into the skull?

Meh.

On the basis that this idea was floated on dragons den a year ago...is now in production and available in the uk already.

I suspect by a different firm.

They're not the same that helmet doesn't have the indicator lights nor the accelerometer which allows a red rear light when the cyclist is slowing down.

Both these things obviously absolutely useless but its those things that have gained nearly a million dollars in pledges.

Fair play to them, regardless of how well the helmets actually sell the founders will make some decent money.

Its a skull boiler type tho.

For me who runs warm normally, that is enough to put me off any consideration of its other features.

General note.
I have a £20 decathlon helmet with £15 worth of lights attached. My sole reason for a helmet is as a high level vantage point for them and worn only in bad weather, dark rides when I feel the need for more light, but I wouldn't buy an integrated light/hat and particularly not with indicators.

If the lights on my helmet fail, I replace only those, if I feel they are not doing what I need, or something better comes out, I replace only that piece. If the helmet is replaced, I do not need to trash the lights along with it and buy new ones at extra expense, if the light batteries run out I carry spare good quality ones @ £2 and they switch from bike to bike readily - I dont have a USB power source on any of my bikes nor fancy buying one or more just for power resilience for the hat JJ links to. I have free rein to pick a helmet that is best suited to my head shape and heat dissipation and is as comfortable on as it can be - with these integrated ones, I may have to compromise that comfort level to acceess the novelty features.

If helmet integrity in a minor crash or fall is a factor then my helmet itself makes no compromise to having weak spots or thinner membranes in order the fit the light units flush - accepted I may be putting a stress point in as per Schumacher Cam with an attachment but both front & rear are designed and fitted to minimise this eventuality & crash tested.
