All the cornflakes in the world are made in one big massive factory just outside Swindon (or so some fella in a doorway once told me) and just get put in different boxes. It's the same for Weetabix variants and beer.

They might be made in the same factory, but I can assure you Saisnbury's Corn Flakes are not the same as Kellog's.

As language might shape thought (see other thread) so might the box shape our attitude to the cornflakes therein...

I tried Tescos's Special Flakes (or whatever they're called), a copy of Kellogg's Special K. But they were too sweet so I switched back to Special K.

I also tried Tesco's beans (not the value ones, the next one up), but I opened one last year to find the contents mouldy (it was well in date). It was so bad when I took it back to Tesco's, the customer service adviser stepped back in disgust!

They sent me a £3 Gift Card for that. Remember years ago, my brother got £20 in vouchers for a hair in a pizza from Tesco, so I guess the more profit they make, the less they pay out when something goes wrong!

No, I think Kelloggs only make Kelloggs. Other own brand cornflakes may all be made in the same place. Nabisco, on the other hand, I think, do make virtually all Wheat Bisk type cereal.

I buy (mentally walks round shop) Sainsburys Basics: tinned toms, instant noodles, spaghetti (dry), baked beans, cheese, bread, biscuits, chocolate (for cooking with and it's fine to eat too) tuna and occasionally, smoked salmon (it's just trimmings) and liver pate. I buy S's own brand but not Basics: Cereal (Branflakes or 'weetabix', cupasoup, pesto, yoghurt (only because the Basics comes in pots too big for me to get through) and milk. Branded I buy.... Crespo Black Olives is about all that comes to mind, in the big jar.

Also, anything useful that is reduced.

A few months ago we tasted Asda gin against Gordon's against some Dutch (Blue Sapphire?) gin somebody gave us, which was a real chore as you would imagine. By the time we had tasted then tasted again then a third time we were pretty sure the Gordon's was still the best although the Asda stuff was surprisingly good, just a little less smooth and with less juniper. So we just had to taste again to be sure we'd chosen right....

About ten years ago, I used to love Asdas salt and vinegar crisps, instead of Golden Wonder ones. Anyway, one packet we opened had a Jay cloth in it and that was all, not a crisp, just a dirty used cloth. We called in environmental health ( we got interragated like they did not believe we found it in the bag ) and they got in touch with the crisps makers. Turns out it was Golden Wonder who made the crisps for Asda and that jay cloth we found was used in wiping one flavour off the conveyer ready for the next. Golden Wonder gave me a £5 voucher and an apology and changed the way they did their cleaning after that:ohmy:

Birds custard is made in the same factory as Aldi brand custard. I know because I used to work in the factory that made it.

I can't stand custard anywayxx(

Persil washing powder
Kellogs cereals
Hellman's mayo
Heinz ketchup
Fairy washing up liquid

Basically all the stuff my Mum used to buy  .. anything else tends to be either Sainsburys/Waitrose own brand, or a random brand.
