Hi all,

I purchased a Trek 7.5 FX in December, and whilst giving it the once over last week spotted metal shards in the brake blocks. Initially panicking, I searched these forums and found it's fairly common, with the best advice being swapping out the bog standard ones for some Kool Stops.

I've never had to purchase replacement pads for V-brakes before so I'm being a bit jittery.... I just want to check that these are the correct ones to get.

Thanks all

You need pads specifically for V brakes not callipers. http://www.wiggle.co...v-brake-blocks/

Or if you just want pads for cartridge type V brakes: http://www.wiggle.co...air-of-inserts/

Ascertain exactly which type of pads you have first as the two types are not interchangeable.

I have kool stops on both bikes' front brakes. I cleaned up both last weekend. There were bits of metal, bits of grit, and some other unidentified bits in the mtb ones.

All quite normal. It's one of the 4 things on my monthly list - to clean and reset brake blocks and check the mechanisms.

Doesn't matter what blocks are fitted they need cleaning up regularly.

Ah cool, if you all think it's nothing to worry about I'll save the cash for something else

Other threads on here intimated it would stop it happening, but I'll wear these out first.

Cheers!
