There's always the interesting discussion about joint finances in a marriage but we just have joint accounts, no personal money as such. So if I want to buy a bike, it means we, the family, don't buy something else.
That means there is a prioritisation of our cash. Whilst a bike may be important to me, it isn't important to mrs nickyboy or the children. As it happens I am going to spend about £1,300 on a bike this spring. But this is only because the family finances are in a state to handle it and we can still do all the other things we want to do as a family. Cycling is just me so family stuff like holidays has to come first

We both have our own accounts with what's left from our salaries, that is our own money to do as we wish. As long as the the joint acc is covered and the children are ok for everything then all is fine. Neither of us ask for 'permission' to do something we don't, we discuss what it is either of us wishes to go off and do and there is no conflict with other arrangements...
