it think you may be right.I think it is something like food, you cannot buy a sarnie in a supermarket then eat it in their cafe .It is to do with vat on food in cafes.
Really? I mean really? Is the op a tongue in cheek one, or is it serious? If its the latter i suggest a long hard look around the world in which we live....
I know this is a joke but it's not the customers job to pay VAT, it's the cafe's job to collect VAT and pay it to the government. If you get a VAT free coffee and then drink it in the cafe, the cafe owners are not doing their job collecting VAT. They're the ones who may get in trouble. They should be paying VAT.
HMRC agents will follow them home, kick their doors in, steal their computers and plant kiddie porn.
That will teach them a lesson.
Errrrrr, yes they do....That being the case I don't think they have the grounds to whittle if some customers indulge in a spot of tax avoidance themselves.
Some places can't be bothered washing up cups and saucers so give everyone paper cups... they even tell people their dishwasher is broken sometimes. Mentioning no names but it begins with costa.
A bit like some French town centres. The number of them I've been in where the toilets are being 'renovated' is incredible.
Of course, you are right. I am an idiot. Lots of sandwich shops have variable prices for food, but not for drinks.
