My aim is to retire at 55 but not sure it's possible.

You're early 40's?

Forget it-rules are changing. Earliest you'll be able to retire is 57 (the law is changing to make the minimum retirement age 10 year's less than State Pension Age).

However, the budget has (we hope-currently going through consultation) made pension saving really really interesting, with the ability to not force annuitisation (so it's a savings account essentially with tax advantages).

Exciting times for those in the business.

Might happen. I am just this side of early 40's, just, don't tell @potsy .... Heh heh

You can retire when you want, wether they will allow you to access pension pots is another matter.
