As much as possible:becool:

Man, if I had the time and available funds I'd be cycling as much of the world as I could.

Hi. Had an offer from work which gives me chance to retire early at 55. Any suggestions for rides to do?
Ha ha! I though you were going to ask about pensions
Do as many rides as you can until your legs can push the pedals.
Mind, you'll need to support your pension eventually, as N+1s do not grow on trees

Start off with a LEJOG to boost confidence and give yourself an appetite for touring.
Study a map of Europe and based on the time you took to do lejog, estimate the time it would take you to cycle to eg Stockholm, Prague, Barcelona etc.
Don't waste more time on planning, get on your bike and go, enjoy yourself while still fit for it.

This is an interesting thread. My case, I am 64 and approaching the age when people expect you to retire, but there is no longer any compulsion to do so. I still don't feel old, mentally any way, and I can ride to work. So my dilemma, should I stop working or carry on for another year. I know once you stop, the leisure time is great, but funding those N+1's will get harder and harder and if I wanted to get back into the workplace later, no doubt it would be difficult and for a lot less £.

Be interested to hear from others who have retired, is life all you imagined, cycling every day or do you regret giving up work so young?

Thanks
Keith

Stockie, take it and discover other things as well as cycling. Can I ask what job you have?

Desk job, working in IT dept @ Charities Aid Foundation in Kent. A reasonably pleasant 15mile ride to work as well.

If you can afford to I would grasp it with both hands and run before they change their minds. As for rides well I have very little experience with that one.

I remember reading a story called the Last Noo Noo! where the main character was encouraged to give up his dummies. And the last page in the book was a Noo Noo tree! I now have visions of sneaking down and burying a bike in the garden!

Having been retired for 25 years  (I took very early retirement) make sure you have enough to do to fill in 16 hour day, every day 7 days a week, sometime you do something just to get out of the house and stop looking at the same four wall.

My Dad decided to do a day or two a week working for the small business association, when he was approaching retirement, and he kept that going afterwards when he officially retired to give him something to do as well as golf and his allotment.
