My kindle is very handy and doesnt replace my nexus 7, as I use it for reading in bed on the lowest light setting, also its a lot lighter ,battery lasts longer and can be viewed well in normal light, where a tft/lcd tablet struggles.

while we are talking nexus, check out mighttext, a real time saver, as you install the app on your phone and you can get notified/view/reply to texts from your nexus.

Also you can get plugins for the popular browsers, like chrome etc

If you get 3g version have a look at a Giffgaff data only Sim. If you go for a Wi-Fi only consider looking at Fon.

The ios or android discussion here is overlooking one minor consideration. If the OP asked about a playbook then they are looking at cheap so the ipads are going to be outside their price range. Before suggesting you get what you pay for and the ipad is therefore worth it remember that IT IS OUTSIDE THEIR PRICE RANGE even at £100 less.
The apple faithful tend to generate the same angry responses as do the religious.

Buy the Nexus 7.

That means you actually own it like with old Windows, and as such, can always put decent Linux operating system on it when Android fades.

Interesting thread. I have a question. I'm looking for a tablet which will run Excel, please no lectures on that, just s very simple spreadsheet. This is used outdoors for stock taking on nurseries and in glasshouses - no wifi.

I now know there is a 3G Nexus. Could I run Excel on this? If not could I use some sort if cloud facility or maybe Dropbox to work on the spreadsheet?

The work is only entering numbers into a single column

Gnumeric runs, but via installing the also free Ubuntu Noroot package at the Play store..

I've only used Gnumeric for Windows . Not a patch on Excel but a good spreadsheet none the less that can handle Excel files.

This is possible on a nexus 7. There is office software you can use to to run simple excel documents like the one you are BC speaking about.

I am pretty sure that you can use google docs offline these days, that has a decent but basic spreadsheet system.

Docs is the suite which includes Spreadsheets and Documents.
And by mentioning spreadsheets immediately after certainly alludes to a Yes.

At least you knew what you meant.

Any reviews of the Samsung Tab 2 7" - I have an option to pick one up reduced at £119 as I've just upgraded my phone to a Samsung S3, and can trade in my old smartphone for a discounted Tab 2 ?
