Tales from today's commute....

Bit more of a directive to be in the office at the moment, so using it as an excuse for a few commutes in.

Lots of benefits to WFH, but a big negative has been my huge drop in fitness. Young kids mean weekend or evening rides are difficult and involve planning and negotiations so the commutes were a lifeline for me before covid. I've risen from around 78kg to 95kg+ in the last few years .

Hopefully a few commutes a week will start to reverse the process!

I have the same problem, less because of lockdown, fortunately I was working throughout, but because my place of work moved from 15km away to less than 1 km. I'm also trying to build up stamina and reduce waitsline.

Cycled into work this morning; I was running a little late but managed about 20km in 50 minutes which startled me mightily...

I can work from home if I wished and in certain circumstances I do. But very rare. But.. since last October, my daily cycle commute has dropped from a 30 mile round trip to a 17 mile round trip and it's noticeable. I have put on a few extra pounds since without the high intensity hour plus work out twice a day.

I was stopped at some traffic lights and on the opposite pavement was a mum and her daughter, off to nursery I guess.
Little girl shouts over "Hi bike man, Hi". The mum was slightly embarrassed by the situation, as was I, I suppose.
I couldn't not do anything, so I smiled at the little girl and gave her a wave.:hello:

Quite a bit of traffic where I wasn't expecting it but fairly quiet elsewhere. Which has me envisaging 'Punishment Pass' on the urban dual carriageway (no central barrier). Quite a few tubeless blowout and seals on route to, which has me thinking I should have changed the rear last night but I decided to wait for the weekend. So it'll just be the short route home tonight. My legs probably need the rest anyway; especially as someone wants me to do a 2nd ride tomorrow and I still want to do my Saturday and Sunday group rides.

I woke up to see very dark clouds outside my bedroom window this morning. Realised the cause was a fire somewhere.
Checking Facebook it seems it's a recycling place.
Had a much better view on my ride to the station.

On another note. It's going to be another very hot 27 miles home this afternoon. Loving it.

Good luck with it. I used to do a fake commute when WFH, but I didn't have to get little ones to school.

WFH today. Tempo on the way home last night as didn't fancy melting. Still melted and went to bed early as was shattered. Wife is planning an early swim tomorrow, so I'll get up and go out for a spin on the CX bike before it gets a bit warm.

40 wonderful miles and 1500m climbing chasing my fast mate round the Peak District on the way home last night. Fantastic warm conditions.

Gentle pootle in this morning, great to be able to enjoy being in T shirt and shorts.

Further pootle home shortly.

I was right about that back tyre needing replaced. The p'ture opened up and sealed thankfully about 3 or 4 times in the first mile when I pumped it hard. Then with less traffic I was able to pay more attention to picking a gentle line and the tyre stayed good. But I'll retire my good bike front tyre to the commuters rear and put the new 28mm wide tyre on the good bike tomorrow after my ride.
