This nondescript pub on Bournemouth's West Cliff is the only one I pass on my commute. Never darkened its door once in over 8 years in my current job - until today. Popped in for half a pint of Coke, sat amongst the locals for 20 minutes wondering why I had waited so long and then got on my way. Simple pleasures.

I skipped the first couple of stations and cycled to Huntingdon station (17.25miles), got on a semi fast train for 1 stop and off at Huntingdon for the 18miles cycle home. I was tempted to cycle the 21miles between Biggleswade and Huntingdon too but I didn't have a bottle and with carrying the heavy laptop I probably needed it.

Turning right from a side street into a busy main road. Waited quite a while for a gap, then a motorist turning right into my street let me out...

...and was promptly undertaken by Range Rover driving on the pavement!

This is one of the reasons 4x4s are so lethal. They allow kerbs and other road furniture to be casually ignored.

Yep, 3/4 of a mile to the station and it decided to hoof it down. Lovely start to the week. It's brightening up though and thankfully it's not cold.

Rainy commute #16 for the year
Same period last year 24 rainy commutes

Edit: Second part of this mornings cycle commute. The rain did abate and the sun is now shining. A dry run all the way in to work. Though the bike is a little mucky from the road spray and debris.

A gorgeous morning and ideal weather for the ride in - tangibly cooler and less humid than it has been but still a comfortable temperature with some sun appearing a bit later into the ride.

Traffic was pretty light (schools are out again?) and what little there was queuing into the city was easily overtaken sailing down the deserted opposite carriageway.

One up-side of my diet slipping back towards carbs is more energy; last night's unbridled binging on carrots, hummous, strawberries and yoghurt manifesting as a faster than usual ride in.

It's been a good year and ultimately I can't much complain about any of the commuting I've experienced since I moved (dickhead drivers notwithstanding) however life would be so sweet were they all like this morning :becool:

Nice part of the world. I was in Bournemouth when we had that scorching weekend 12/13 Jul.
Seemed like half the country had the same idea too. Beach was lovely, but snided.

1 minute to 5pm. Heavens opened, absolutely sheeting down. I'll give it a few before I try riding home...

Looked like it was going to rain again, dark moody morning when I left with hint the skys were going to open again. Slightly luky last night basically got home to the front door as opened the front door thunder started crashing followed by rain couldnt have timed it better was sat indoors watching heavens open. New tyres okay not speedy who cares as long as they dont puncture. Not that it matters nice average speed of 16.3mph on way in. Just hope return journey tonight isn wet cant stand getting soaked.

After raining all weekend and most of yesterday when I was WfH, today is typically beautiful. A bit of a steady start to my commute but a driver behind me on the well designed Drake Avenue (let down by car centric signal timings, a bit Ying and Yang!) https://maps.app.goo.gl/WJhkXfVZnmA1Ffbc8?g_st=ac

Convinced me to up the pace and I kept it up all the way to town. Wore a Gabba after the last few days but I think it'll be too warm now!

Got on bike, very slight rain. Just had overshoes on. Got about a mile and the heavens opened. Popped on my jacket. Another couple of miles and the jacket came off at the top of a hill. Poached.

Continued without all the way in. Slightly more rain last mile. Now hoofing it down as I'm drinking my coffee.

I got home yesterday just before all hell broke loose with the thunder and lightning. Another 5 minutes and I would have got caught up in it.

This morning.. phew.. muggy as hell. Been at work over half an hour already and still sweating even after my wash down.
Looking like a different story for the way home, more heavy rain predicted.

Good few cycle commuters out and about today on the mean streets of SE London. More then I've seen in a long time.

After yesterday's smugness in the face of CC's otherwise collective soaking I got drenched on the way home. Seems the rain was manifesting in small, torrential, thundery pockets and I'd originally elected to go home, sit it out and maybe pop out later for some time on the rings but watching the sky decided to game it and lost.. getting soaked in the biblical rains by the time I'd reached Summertown and sheltering in the M&S (which cost me three carrots and some miserly-sized broccoli; sadly no discount chicken).

Waited that out until it had nearly finished before continuing, by the time I'd got to the park it'd stopped and the sun was peeking out again. Waterproof off and onto the rings for a reasonable session (time / reps gradually creeping up, aware of but receiving no twinges from the growing list of injuries).

Also had a nice chat with a young chap who'd come to do some pullups; half my age and clearly lighter / fitter / stronger, however after watching me do a support hold for 1:15 I offered him a go and he struggled to keep himself in place for more than about five seconds with much twitching and wobbling

He seemed keen though so hopefully that's another covert to this particular form of punishment.

Mood improved substantially by the weather, exercise high and a bit of a stretch I headed back out north for a loop over Port Meadow to Waitrose for a pretty healthy score (note to self - people don't go shopping in torrential rain!) then back home; by which time most of my clothing was mercifully dry - since I don't really have any way of achieving this at home other than draping it over a bike.

Despite all this the evening seemed to carry with it a few early autumnal notes; acknowledged by the now traditional airing of Pink Floyd's DSOTM when I got home before falling asleep at just gone ten, utterly shattered after about 28 miles on top of the working day and rings session.

This morning was pleasant if muggy; traffic lighter thanks to the lack of school run nobbers but offset by temporarly lights in various places. Had a shot at a bloke on an electric Brompton up St. Aldates who left me for dead pushing well past the usual assistance cutoff speed - so assuming it was legal fair play to him!

Finally bumped into and chatted to a bloke I met on the tow path a while ago who lives in one of the boats which was welcome as I'd incorrectly mentioned a good spot blackberries so was keen to set that straight as his mobility isn't good and I didn't want to be responsible for a wasted journey. Having approached him from behind he thanked me for sounding my bell in good time (something I always consciously try to do) which was appreciated

I was out the other day and has an interesting chat with a stranger on a tow path on the way to his boat. He obviously liked a drink and a roll up and asked me how many miles I did on the bike. Then proceeded to tell me he had never ridden a bike in his life and that he was selling some of his classic car collection at auction the next day. Without wishing to be rude, most people would look at him and think he didn't have two pennies to rub together. I asked how much he was hoping to get for the cars, his answer was about £100k! He then slowly revealed he had 300 acres of prime farming land in Chester and the Norfolk Broads including four farmhouses. I got the distinct impression this guy was not a fantasist and that he was very likely telling me the truth, particularly as he had pulled up in a brand new £25k car which he had just bought as a "little run around" for his ex-wife.
