Well, that was a windy one. Blustery side winds made for a bit mad progress and the winds are only going to get stronger during the day. It's going to be very hard work for the return ride later.
On the plus side, temperatures were at 12° at 7am this morning and now showing 16. So a fair old mild day. 2 days also without any rain. That's predicted for Wednesday.

On the up-side, despite the significant tailwind it was tolerably mild and I got away with suffering only a few inconsequential spots of rain despite the constant threat from the uniformally grey skies; while the bike was slick and quiet (with no ghost shifting) thanks to yesterday's freshly waxed chain

On the down side most of the ride was marred by my unaddressed rage after some absolute cretin decided to do a full three-point turn in front of me while we were approaching each other at speed on a straight, we'll-sighted road. I watched with incredulity as he swung across in front of me as I approached at 20mph+, causing me to brake hard to a complete standstill.

What made it worse is that had he stopped at the first reversing manouver I'd have had enough time to pass in front, but no, his snowballing selfishness had to take priority over my safe passage and he was totally blocking my side of the carriageway when I reached him; passing behind appearing too dangerous based on his other actions. It stopped short of being outright dangerous but was extremely arrogant, inconsiderate and totally unnecessary - probably saving him at best ten seconds over simply waiting for me to pass.

Needless to say he was mercillessly abused, and had I actually had any face to face interaction with him in that instant it wouldn't have been pleasant. All that was in the name of getting back out onto the car park that is the ring road, and I very nearly peeled off that way onto the adjacent path to confront him as he had nowhere to go... but thankfully thought better of it.

Another instance where a camera would have been appreciated; although I doubt dibble would have done much anyway.

Fought the wind all the way down the second half of my commute, and deployed sealskinz socks to keep my feet dry. Top half was taken care of by a Galibier packable jacket. Long sleeved jersey underneath. Not the fastest ride by a long way, but it felt good to be out riding.

One absolute imbecile in a small van overtook me with a BMW van oncoming, meting out a close pass and cutting in on me, and forcing the BMW driver to slow & swerve. Duly reported. Sometimes I get rides with no incidents to report, those seem to be getting rarer.

Right choice taking the car. Roads closed still on my usual route.some big branches down in some places that had been pulled off the trees already

well that was windy  actually the ride in the morning was quite fun to begin with a stonking tailwind, managed to hit 25mph at one point, (and lets just pause for a moment and wonder how on a 30mph road cars were zipping past me still, guess they had a tailwind boost too...) might have gone bit quicker still but the speed wobbles with a bike carrying extra kilos of rack and panniers not perfectly balanced for weight and dodging potholes werent confidence inspiring with the handling, so I kind of just let the bike have its head of speed, without pushing it.

In anycase I soon caught up with the early morning school run traffic and ground to a halt, and ironically ended up taking me longer than normal to do a work ride, as I had to risk the rubbish cycle path route (classic stop start multiple junctions, driveways, phone zombies etc) instead to get through.

of course what goes downwind, must tack upwind at some point to get back to port so to speak, and the return journey, could have been worse for sure, and was rideable certainly in the sheltered bits, but in the open, yeah that was hard work, doesnt help much either when drivers arent paying attention to the conditions or things like the big ambulance with blue flashing lights and loud siren behind them and still overtaking me when all the other traffic, myself included is slowing/stopping to let it through.

Hit the roads today wind behind me hit a sweet spot for once and managed 19 miles per hour not done that since 2016 probably same wind lol lungs were exploding after it. Hate this time of year its usually a pre-lude to full on twat season, Setting of in the dark gives you a taster of what you can look forward to in the winter. Due to temporay traffic lights being set up yet again in the same place they were three weeks prior took the side road I was using in winter. Cars parked either side, I had light built into hat, three lights on the front all on not blinking. Still cars pushed their way through. Got to wickham road and usual attempt of take over with car heading towards to options either push me off the road or collide with traffic island, I let the prick back in. So looking forward to winter commute.

A fine morning here in the Medway. 12° but feeling milder. Sunny blue skies today. Still in short sleeves and shorts.
Thankfully the blustery winds I had for yesterday's commute home have abated, but still a fair breeze out there. The winds where from the side rather then from behind so it wasn't too bad. Just had a few wobbly moments when passing junctions or at a stop.

Fair change in the weather up here overnight. Got a gap in the rain for the ride in. On went the lightweight water repellent MTB trousers (shower proof only but reproofed this weekend) and a warmer top. Headwind all the way. First mucky commute in ages. Wet roads and paths. Shoes were filthy despite mudguards. Chucked down after I'd got changed.

Very Autumnal. Big change from Saturday's 40 miler in sunshine.

lol - sod that; perhaps coming to a dead halt as the direct result of their own stupidity might afford their actions some perspective..

Last night's ride back was generally spendid; straight to kickboxing after work for a reasonable session with a good chat with fellow students afterwards. Then it was north for the usual out-and-back via the park - this time managing three dips, a solitary chin-up and some welcome dangling.

Had to stop on the tow path to oik the bike over a sizeable fallen tree - some good samaritans had been clearing the extraneous foliage with secateurs and a bow saw to at least make it passible (as I'd done a week or so ago on a smaller scale as the tree was evidently on its way, causing it to encroach on the path). They had no chance of removing the main 10-12" trunk however, and even if they'd have got through it, it would have caused the bulk of the tree to end up in the canal... don't envy whoever's job it is to sort that one out!

Back into town to the scaffolding covering the Eagle and Child on St. Giles - the fat bars allowing more comfortable, wide-grip hangs than the monkey bars so these were enjoyed for a bit, after an unexpectedly civilised exchange with three young blokes who thanked me for making the effort to make space for them as we passed beneath

Got a smile off a passing dog walker after dismounting well before she reached me on the otherwise deserted path after hanging for a bit and some abysmal attempts at reaching an L-sit.

Out towards the supermarket; tried to help a girl having a wonky-saddle-based drama but unfortunately had to decline as it was oddly secured to the seatpost with a nut rather than the usual caphead bolt, so I had no appriate tools.

Loaded up with shopping / some nice new soft furnishings I headed home in the warm autumn air feeling really good; travelling pretty quickly but on fewer miles than previous days, rounding the day off in the low-20s.

Of course this couldn't go un-ruined by some knobhead - this coming in the form of some bellend who ragged it past me only to signal and pull in sharply to completely obstruct the cycle lane in front of me, coming to rest on double-yellows. Again, not dangerous but extremely inconsiderate; his response to me glaring at him through the window was to gesture at his mate getting out as if I'd somehow failed to grasp the reasons for his twattery / that they justified his terrible driving.

I let this pass as I was in a good mood and tbh while idiotic I was able to go around the obstruction unlike the morning's muppet which forced me to a complete stop.

This morning was very pleasant - clear, bright and temperate if particularly windy. Thankfully on dramas other than leaving late as I forgot to cook lunch last night, and calling the sausage wrong - opting for only two when I found them to be a particularly nice batch once finally at the office.

Did have a little bit of a wobble which concerned me a bit as I wasn't really sure why - think it was a combination of inattentiveness / clumsiness while hitting a dip in the road, causing me to swerve and lose grip on one pedal but thankfully I stayed upright.

Hoping to get some time in on the rings on the way home, although given all the other stuff I've been doing this might be wishful thinking..
