Tales from today's commute....

A fine morning here in the Medway. 12° but feeling milder. Sunny blue skies today. Still in short sleeves and shorts.
Thankfully the blustery winds I had for yesterday's commute home have abated, but still a fair breeze out there. The winds where from the side rather then from behind so it wasn't too bad. Just had a few wobbly moments when passing junctions or at a stop.

Ride It Like You Stole It!

Fair change in the weather up here overnight. Got a gap in the rain for the ride in. On went the lightweight water repellent MTB trousers (shower proof only but reproofed this weekend) and a warmer top. Headwind all the way. First mucky commute in ages. Wet roads and paths. Shoes were filthy despite mudguards. Chucked down after I'd got changed.

Very Autumnal. Big change from Saturday's 40 miler in sunshine.

I let the prick back in.
lol - sod that; perhaps coming to a dead halt as the direct result of their own stupidity might afford their actions some perspective..

Last night's ride back was generally spendid; straight to kickboxing after work for a reasonable session with a good chat with fellow students afterwards. Then it was north for the usual out-and-back via the park - this time managing three dips, a solitary chin-up and some welcome dangling.

Had to stop on the tow path to oik the bike over a sizeable fallen tree - some good samaritans had been clearing the extraneous foliage with secateurs and a bow saw to at least make it passible (as I'd done a week or so ago on a smaller scale as the tree was evidently on its way, causing it to encroach on the path). They had no chance of removing the main 10-12" trunk however, and even if they'd have got through it, it would have caused the bulk of the tree to end up in the canal... don't envy whoever's job it is to sort that one out!

Back into town to the scaffolding covering the Eagle and Child on St. Giles - the fat bars allowing more comfortable, wide-grip hangs than the monkey bars so these were enjoyed for a bit, after an unexpectedly civilised exchange with three young blokes who thanked me for making the effort to make space for them as we passed beneath

Got a smile off a passing dog walker after dismounting well before she reached me on the otherwise deserted path after hanging for a bit and some abysmal attempts at reaching an L-sit.

Out towards the supermarket; tried to help a girl having a wonky-saddle-based drama but unfortunately had to decline as it was oddly secured to the seatpost with a nut rather than the usual caphead bolt, so I had no appriate tools.

Loaded up with shopping / some nice new soft furnishings I headed home in the warm autumn air feeling really good; travelling pretty quickly but on fewer miles than previous days, rounding the day off in the low-20s.

Of course this couldn't go un-ruined by some knobhead - this coming in the form of some bellend who ragged it past me only to signal and pull in sharply to completely obstruct the cycle lane in front of me, coming to rest on double-yellows. Again, not dangerous but extremely inconsiderate; his response to me glaring at him through the window was to gesture at his mate getting out as if I'd somehow failed to grasp the reasons for his twattery / that they justified his terrible driving.

I let this pass as I was in a good mood and tbh while idiotic I was able to go around the obstruction unlike the morning's muppet which forced me to a complete stop.

This morning was very pleasant - clear, bright and temperate if particularly windy. Thankfully on dramas other than leaving late as I forgot to cook lunch last night, and calling the sausage wrong - opting for only two when I found them to be a particularly nice batch once finally at the office.

Did have a little bit of a wobble which concerned me a bit as I wasn't really sure why - think it was a combination of inattentiveness / clumsiness while hitting a dip in the road, causing me to swerve and lose grip on one pedal but thankfully I stayed upright.

Hoping to get some time in on the rings on the way home, although given all the other stuff I've been doing this might be wishful thinking..

Now this is something I can wholeheartedly agree on. Massive SUV W@nkPanzers on the daily cycle commute are one of the banes of my commuting life. It's about time they were taxed out of existence. No one needs one in towns and cities.

Extra Tax on SUV's

Same as that. Like so many elements of "humanity" the mind boggles at our apparently insatiable appetite to destroy ourselves - while we're running out of finite resources, traffic is getting worse, parking is getting more difficult, seemingly every road surface looks like the surface of the moon what do we do? Make cars bigger.

We absolutely deserve extinction at the hands of our own utterly stupid, self-defeating behaviour tbh.

Or not fall off and break your pelvis. This latest holiday I avoided the bike for a day or two before.

I'm going on holiday to same place as last year. 4 days in Ypres. We went last year, one of the group fell off his bike in a 0 vehicle accident on a segregated cycle laneand broke his leg in 3 places.
He only got back to full duties at work on 1st September...and is coming with us....we've notified Ypres General Hospital already & booked him a suite
