Tales from today's commute....

Although it wasn't actually raining significantly during the ride, this was one of the wettest commutes I have had, with rivers down the hills, and standing water in every dip or hollow.

Worst bit was one dip where there was about a 10-15 yard flood, over 6 inches deep, so my feet were entirely under water at the bottom of each pedal stroke. It was only an inch or two off the bottom bracket. Fortunately I know that road well enough to know there were no potholes under any of the water I couldn't avoid.

Must Get In Front - someone who does a totally pointless and often dangerously close overtake, often just to join a queueueue of vehicles going nowhere fast.

Exhausted before thinking of cycling, so just got in the car. Had a 'cold' last week or so and I'm just 'run-down'. didn't help riding on the 'cold' last week, just not shifting it.

Tel me about it. Huge struggle getting up, not sleeping well and feeling very run-down and tired lately. Maybe I need to see the doc. I wish I had my own car sometimes so I could drive in.

Forgot how much I despise those slow red light creepers. Undertake on the left at lights to sit in the junction and dart across when the perpendicular light goes red - have to overtake them time and time again.

Lots of leaf mulch at the moment is making drain covers and sharp corners interesting.

Echoing the above given the weather and trying to rest the knee i am resigned to driving this week on late shift , glad i did as although it had stopped raining when i finished last night the roads were water logged with flooding in some parts .I am feeling run down and tired too dealing with the stuff going on at home so all i feel like doing is sleeping let alone going to work.

A decent one again this morning - mild, dry and quick into the city again thanks to the seemingly consistant tailwind. Didn't stop me getting blown into the weeds by a racing snake despite pushing 20mph.. although I retained some smug superiority as my fantastic mudguards prevented the go-faster stripe down the length of this arse my assailant had earned.

Traffic was good again - the main roads in having been enormously better for the two weeks since the congestion charges were put in place so finger's crossed this is indicitive of how things will be from now on - at least while it remains in force.

Not a lot of twattery, sausages were variable so I only got two which were pretty pleasant

How curious! The 'mudguards' word in this message was highlighted in blue as an on'line link so I clicked on it to see what kind of mudguards you wafter might be referring to and the link drove me to the US company Walmart with $ figures - so in the US? You are not in the US I know but I think some aspect of 1984 is now with us and big brother is watching what we look at on line.

My bad today. Stopped in the cycle lane looking at the red traffic light in front of me. Failed to spot the green cycle light above me. Some unamused cyclists behind me!

I do wonder - and worry - about this site's protection of intellectual property. In the publishing world these days much is talked about the prevalence of AI stealing ideas and product of the commercial work of authors and creating parallel material using that intellectual property to create artificial work which matches or apes the nuances and specific wording of authors.
I have just eliminated a piece I offered in the Remembrance Day thread due to a concern of such illegal usage of my intellectual property. As a writer, my work is protected by copyright and also by publishers' own protection against filching, but not so on such sites as this.
I suspect that the creator of this site - Shawn (American by dint of the spelling of his name?) intended to use it as a financial vehicle and possibly has other sites on other subjects and therefore is probably not at all interested how the material posters post is used by outside trading entities.
I wonder if UK Cycling as a UK charity has protective measures in place? In any case, whether one is concerned or not, posting on this site the poster should beware that their posts are not private and are open to use by commercial entities who may wish to target such posts for financial gain.

Hugely busy commute home, so very slow.

Really do need to sort out my front mudguard, absolutely covered in muck when I got home.

Even wetter coming home tonight. Mostly just damp, but one spot that often floods, usually just a few inches depth for 10 yards or so, tonight must have been at least 200 yards, and was well over my knees when I got off and waded through it (turning round and rerouting would have added at least 20 minutes to my journey by that point).

For anybody who knows the area, this was at the bottom of the hill on the road between Clawdd Coch and the level crossing.
