What the hell was wrong with Leeds traffic today? Gelderd Road was a car park. Had to take car today and sat there wishing I could have gone on the bike. Also deeply regretted the choice of route, but seemed like a good idea at the time!

Aye, it was busier than normal this morning (approached via Wortley). Enjoyed the smug feeling as I filtered.

Today I rode along the long, narrow shopping street with a big Jag 4x4 on my tail. Lots of temp lights, crossing and traffic backing up on red lights.
Jag driver was worryingly courtious and careful and did not overtake in a rush to reach the back of queue. He overtook safely and barely had to stop as the lights turned green.

I gave him a wave.

Forgot to put a shirt in my bag, sitting in the office wearing a fleece over my baselayer.

I've done similar. Got to work, no shirt. Jumped on bike, rode home and rode back. Then someone says why didn't you pop in Asda - doh... It's literally down the road from work and I pass it !

I've also done this, at my central London office where it would've been a right faff to get the bike out again. I figured I'd go patronise one of the many nearby shirt shops, but they wanted over £50 even for the cheapest!! Ended up running over to Oxford St a mile away. Got back & changed just in time for a 10am meeting...

(I also keep a spare pair of socks & undies in my desk drawer)

Light rain annoyingly this morni

ng which was annoying but I caught most of the lights in green despite it being busier with traffic. Even the last toucan which is heavily car biased but a ped had pressed it before I got there. Poor bloke must have been waiting there for ages.

Despite the roads being busy with cars the train station was pretty empty. Lol there was one bloke wandering across my path when I was dismounted and I let him by and another ped walked into the back of the bike despite the train station being nearly empty.

I caught the early train again, I maybe should have had 5mins longer in bed. The semi express train I prefer is now 15mins behind with the new time table and leaves from the same platform. Previously my preferred train was only 9mins behind but 5 mins faster and I could relax in side it, I can't do that now.

Had a truly scary close pass, at speed, from an Argos van driver on Wednesday evening. I shouted as loud as I could in genuine alarm.

There was nothing coming the other way so no reason at all for failing to give me safe space. Deliberate?

I've reported it to Avon and Somerset police as usual although they usually send warning letters to company fleet cases, but also contacted Argos over FB messenger (!) who have given a fulsome apology and promised a full investigation. I'm waiting for a further update.

Realised I had a puncture half way down the drive, found it was spoke side, but the relevant spoke was securely covered by the rim tape - no different to any other so a bit of a mystery.

Replaced tube, refitted, found a broken spoke. Grrr. Decided to ride it regardless, swapping cassette and tyre to spare wheel too much faff.

Made up the time with fastest ride in this year!

12 hour shifts this week due to changes at work, dark going to and from. No ice though which is definitely a bonus, not missing sliding hip 1st into that bridge 😂.

Heading back from testing and a white van pulls up at the side of me with two young lads sat in. Thought I was in for a bit of verbal (knew they weren't eyeing up my old Raleigh 😂) instead a bit of friendly banter saying hold onto the back they'll pull me up the hill 😂. Old but gold made me chuckle

Hopefully you get at least a goodwill compensation voucher or something from Argos (apparently, they sell more than just toys).

Chap who lives across road from me had the wing mirror knocked off his parked car by a passing supermarket home delivery van - I caught it on my CCTV camera. I shared the video with him and he showed it to the supermarket manager. They paid for repairs plus he got a goodwill voucher. To say thank you, my neighbour let me spend half the amount of the voucher.

The thought had crossed my mind but I'm just glad they appear to be taking it seriously. Had a phone call from head office on Friday. Nice neighbour you have there!
