It's on the van for delivery. I'm just debating whether to buy new shoes/pedals.

If its for recreational purposes you ride I'd reccomend touring pedals (A520's, A530's or the like) and keeping your original shoes and getting stiffer soled mtb shoes when you have the cash (no rush).

I would suggest then (and there's no rush to) at your desire put touring the afforementioned touring pedals on it and have the versatality and compatability with your other bikes and perhaps eventually upgrading to a stiffer soled shoe (again no rush).

Why not the SPD-SL's? I have looked on the net today and I don't see much benefit in going with them so for now will probably swap my pedals over and get some new SPDs. They ones you mentioned are single sided only whereas the ones I have you can click in either side, but are heavier!

M520 will be OK, but that bike will look pretty weird ( cheapskate ) with MTB shoes.
A nice pair of road shoes with SPD-SL are a must.
Join your local club. Buy their jerseys. DON'T go riding that bike in a Heinz Beanz, Marmite or crappy plain jersey.
