Google's algorithm fails both ways, both by failing to spot new frauds and by labelling some genuine messages as fraudulent. It is nowhere near as good as signed emails.
I did say 'pretty' good but only from my own experience I see very few dodgy emails and my spam box is full of phishing mails. The best defence IMO is to use your head and don't trust emails, any system can be exploited.

We have them for landline and broadband... *checks bank account*.... all OK so far!

My thoughts exactly.

While demonstrating technical savvy it fails to communicate it in a manner understood by pie eaters.

Yes, we need a helping hand occasionally
Are you seriously suggesting that you two become the lowest common denominator we must dumb our posts down to?

Ok, here goes.

Bad man took sweeties from mummy and daddy. Mummy and daddy upset.

To be honest I am a little surprised that they are claiming this has only just happened, I have had a number of call outs from customers who have had scam phone calls from companies saying they are from talktalk over the past couple of months claiming that their computers are infected with viruses etc and offering to "clean" them for a fee and they are clearly nothing to do with talktalk.

They have been hit twice already this year, in Feb and in August so it could be details stolen then.

It could also just be random phishing calls, unless they had specific details of who they were calling.

I dont think it was random, in each case my customer claimed the scammers had the talktalk account number already.

Yep, I've been getting those, they got names, account nos and contact phone details earlier this year. I've been getting calls from "The Talk Talk" on a weekly basis since. I've noted in other threads the fun I've been having winding them up. Anyway, I'm an ex-customer now. Their CEO was just on the beeb and she can't say if old customers are also affected. Joy.

Talktalk are just a shambles, I get called out to fix peoples internet problems all the time and they are the worst. Their attitude is that it is the customers equipment that is at fault unless you can prove otherwise, which I have great pleasure in doing on a regular basis.

Fair enough... but I've been with TT for internet for nearly 2 years now, and not had a single problem... not one at all

Aye! And if you can't prove otherwise (and we're talking absolute proof, not just ruling out everything in the customer equipment), then they'll cheerfully charge their customers a pretty high rate for any engineer time. To be fair, I never figured out how much is TalkTalk and how much is BTO messing them around with the last bit of wiring into the customer premises.
