I'll agree to disagree on the taste bit. I used to have to blind taste competitors against DG including standard filter coffee. Unless you buy high quality ground coffee or roasted beans the pods are way better.
Ah, a cleaning method for people who like the taste of stale oily coffee residues! The same sort of people talk of letting 'patina' develop on moka pots. They're crazy IMO.
Mrs W bought a pod machine for our bedroom as it on the third floor and the stairs taking a bit of limboing round. Her logic was that I wouldn’t then be able to spill coffee on the carpet when I was bringing up our morning coffee and tea in bed cuppa.
I think we’ve used it twice in the 6 months we‘ve had it. We just bring the drinks very carefully.
So now I’ve send this I’ll probably spill the next time I bring a drink up.

They need cleaning to keep them free off ground coffee that blocks the inlet if your not careful. Also a lot of people use the pod machines for white coffee and hot chocolate. Believe you me you need to clean them if your using milk, I've seen maggots on machines that haven't been cleaned.
