This is why you have a Licensing Office!

A quick letter explaining that you are concerned that the Taxi was being driven in an aggresive manner when it should be obvious to any driver using this route regularly that you were avoiding the potholes and that you were sworn at by the driver will normally end up with a couple of points on the driver's record.

I have cured one firm locally - at he access to our Hospital is a car park, with a separate lane and a 10 mph limit, they love to undertake in the car park lane and cut across cyclists at the roundabout.

All it took was 4 emails to the licensing office complaining about the illegal undertake and speeding to stop the practice totally.

Cheers for that, Cunobelin, will look into that. For sure, it seems more civil than shouting back at taxi drivers.
This morning I was commuting at a busy time, so I took the cycling path. Alas, there was roadworks on it!
Got back on the road, but after the enormous pothole! Colleagues asked me if anybody had called me an idiot on my way in ....

Same pot holey spot today. 10 o'clock on a weekday morning - should be in the cycle path, ha ha ... but I wasn't ^_^
I'm first at the traffic lights, roadworks ahead, the road narrows so that either I take primary like in the middle of the road, or I end up right into the frigging big hole
A quick glance: black taxi behind me, white van next to me .... No way, man!
I dismount, push the bike on the pavement, cross on foot, rejoin the road after the peril.
Anything for a quiet life

You lot would like my paranoid taxi driver from Saturday. He thought I turned the camera on just to film him, and he was so stressed by that he was shaking. I actually just held the camera to bring it to his attention because of the way he was driving as he approached me in the bus lane. I let him go ahead of me.

I wouldn't mind being called an idiot occasionally, it would make a change from "fat c*nt, -bitch, -tw*t, -whore etc! There are some real charmers out there!
Oh, this put things in perspective: in 9 months of commuting, that was the first time I got shouted an insult. I guess it's because I rarely commute in rush hour. In saying that, I just remember that it was a Sunday morning!

I think you're doing pretty well then! Sounds like Glasgow might be a little friendlier than London!

Yes I have rarely had any problems despite what people like Magnatom would lead you to Beleive. About the worst I had was about 15 years ago now when a guy SCREAMED at me about how I should learn how to cycle properly for something which, to be honest, was my fault  I learned and moved on.
A van also scraped the edge of my handlebars once (I know) also about 15 years ago, but it didn't seem to be deliberate, and I stayed upright anyway. I was shouted at to get off the road once by a spotty youth in the passenger seat of a white van when traversing a roundabout, he seemed to be laughing as he said it, so didn't take it too seriously, and a taxi driver once shook his head at me because I had the audacity to change lanes, but, other than that, I've had nothing major really. In fact, most of the other minor things which have happened to me have been entirely self inflicted, including how I got my name!

Then again, I do use the cycle paths half the time, but still, I have cycled on the roads in Glasgow enough, sometimes with..... erm..... copious amounts of drink sloshing about in me, which is wrong, but other than the occasional clippless moment inflicted entirely on myself, nothing has ever happened.

....Oh yes, and I once got a water balloon thrown at me, but it missed and the first I knew of it was when there was a small explosion right next to me. Bugger, it could have cooled me down too!

...but that doesn't come down to you being a better (or not) rider. That comes down to you drawing the line much further towards serious before choosing to remember or talk about any incident.

Anyway, I was thinking about this topic, and called a taxi driver an idiot last night for not giving way on one of the crossings in Hyde Park.

 Not nice: you punishment is to cycle 10 miles in Rome city.
If you come out of it alive, you have earned the right to call anybody on the roads any names you like
