My Mum's office always did the 'bring cakes on your birthday' thing, and she got a reputation for bringing home baked cakes. When she retired, she was baking for three evenings beforehand to satisfy the likely demand on her leaving day....

Having a Boxing Day birthday, I'm always conveniently out of the office...
I try to make the cake myself. It's getting a little boring though as I always get requests to make a carrot cake. I really must find another yummy and reliable cake recipe.
My boss always brings in a gorgeous cake on his birthday and claims he's made it himself. We've had our suspicions and I cunningly raised it with his wife at the Christmas dinner and she merrily starting telling me about the recipe she'd used that year!
