A very quiet day might be needed - Angelfishsolo is sleeping, TheDoctor is conscent consint thinking about pieces of paper, and Landslide is recuperating. Shall I put the kettle on (quietly)?

I'm fueling up today, big ride (for me) tonight with the bunch of other Sheffield people. Doing Winnats pass. Looks like a big one, I've not done it before.

Got any oaty biscuits? I'm determined to not run out of steam tonight.

Which group's that?
My advice for Winnat's would be choose a very low gear, pedal slowly up to it, say summat along the lines of "Feck me, there's no way I'm riding up that!" then turn around and go home!

Nah, just go for it. It's steep, but it doesn't go on for ever. Last time I rode up it I got a round of applause from a car coming down the other way!
(Thankfully they'd not seen me stop for a rest at a couple of points on the way!)

Winnats Pass??? ;) B)

I remeber doing that in a VW Polo once - it struggled.
Give me a great-granny ring, a 34T big cog and an extra lung and I'll give it a go...

I don't even have a granny ring. Just a compact double.

I'm even more determined to make it now, I've been practicing my hill climbing a fair bit (unavoidable around here really) and I've done some fairly nasty shorter hills.

Best thing about hills is coming down the other side. Weeeeeeeee.
