Certainly modern chickens are descendants of the Indian Jungle Fowl. That doesn't mean they don't want to be free range, it just means you should provide them with nooks crannies, shelters so they can wander, scratch about in the open air and still feel secure. As regards barn eggs being better welfare, he is this: a bit mistaken. MrWC is making a nice *big* enclosed run for the Wafflyflock. It's weld-mesh sides, so lots of through air and the girls can see what is going on about them. It has a solid roof to keep of any wild bird droppings (good precaution against avian 'flu), and as well as a deep wood chip base for them to scratch about on, it's going to have various wood structures in it for them to go under, over, sit on... different levels as chickens like that.

The colour of the shell depends on the breed of hen.

Batts are a hybrid, based largely around Rhode Island Red IIRC. The nearest I've seen is ISA Brown. They have been specially bred for intensive egg production. In the UK, as we favour brown eggs, we use hens that produce brown eggs. In the USA, consumers prefer white-shelled eggs, so their battery hens are a different breed - and are usually a white-feathered hen. Probably a hybrid too, also bred for intensive egg production.

Evenings!

Just trying out the new computer desk. It seems to work...

'Moff bedwards now. G'night. ;)

Jeez, it'd have to be a pretty crap desk, not to work, I mean, it's only got to stand there....

Any tea on the go?

I'm not sure I see the point of a hover desk. Unless you have a hover chair to go with it. Otherwise, you'd be stuck there, and your desk would be making off to the canteen for tea without you... And all your papers would blow off, en route...

The small antigravity unit still eludes me, sadly.
I did invent an invisibility generator - it's around here somewhere...

I'm not sure I see the point

When has that ever stopped anyone? C'mon Arch, think of the people you've known for the past few years. Would we have ever asked "what's the point of this?"

No.

That's true.

And it's made me a bit sad.

Any tea on the go?

Didn't mean to do that:sad:

Not to worry. It's been one of those days. To put off doing any work, I cleaned my toilet this morning.

Madam H is all excited about her imminent birth, and I'm trying so hard to be pleased for her. Meanwhile the forum is a rampant hot bed of fecundity, and for some reason I can hear this ticking noise all the time.

I'll be alright tomorrow probably, bloody hormones.
