Oh that doesn't sound good.
Injuries or illnesses, or emotions for that matter, all take time to get better, and whatever you do won't necessarily speed things up.
And as for objecting to your opinions, well:rolleyes:. I don't expect anyone to agree with me, or even to change their mind as a result of hearing my reasoning. But I do expect them to listen, just as I'd listen to them.
Anyway.
*reaches for massage oil*
Rose, lavender, or musky? The last one's a bit Chanel No.5-ish.

*Rose, I think, thank you, * and tries to relax*
That seems to be the problem, people not listening.
If people disagree with me, that's fine, but they continue to argue, etc.
For instance, if I do not feel well, I will not be going to Bristol to visit my Aunt. Yes, it is tragic that her son committed suicide last Autumn. But what can I say that would make any difference. She has lots of close friends, and sons and daughters. Yet my mother is most insistant that I should visit Aunt and offer her my support. I hardly knew her son. My mother is quite capable of inviting Aunt to stay with her for a few days, but seems to think I should be taking some sort of responsibility here to act on behalf of her, (my mother) and my two brothers. The fact that I cannot even think about driving that distance, or going on the train, seems to entirely escape my mother's notice.

It's a tough one. Is there any reason why you should be doing this, rather than your mum or your brothers? That's stipulating for a moment that anyone should be. As you say, your Aunt has friends and other children, and yes, it is truly awful that her son killed himself, but if you're not able to help at the moment, then that's that. No-one's really got the right to demand that of you, and trying to lay a guilt trip on you is not a fair tactic.

That is a truly worrying position to be in. I advise Archs' strategy of knocking them over, so they can't get up. It worked in here a few days ago.
Alternatively, Chuffy reckons a mongoose could take on a Dalek, so you need four mongooses mongeese a mongoose and three of its mates.
Let us know how you get on, if you're still in a position to do so.
If not, I welcome our new metallic overlords.

I suggest also, just not mowing the lawn, they will soon get bogged down...

Speicher, what a terrible pressure to be put under. In your aunt's position (and alas, I have been closer to it than I'd like to be, not a son, but, oh, anyway....) a simple letter might make all the difference. It's some time later, the grieving will have changed character, there's probably very little practical you could do, even if you were in full health and fitness. To me it would mean just as much to have a simple note saying "Still thinking of you" than a full scale visit. Support can be offered meaningfully from hundreds of miles away, in an envelope, or over the ether...

My gums hurt. I made a nice couscous and makeral slald fo rmy lunch, and left it at home. Luckily my boss was going out to fetch bread rolls and cheese for his lunch, so he just got some for me, but they were very crusty rolls. Lovely, but very crusty.

Need some tea to wash them down.

<hint> in case anyone is putting the kettle on...

Defeating the Universes greatest killing machines by not using a lawnmower? Arch, I like your style. Again:biggrin:.

Not sure where Spiecher's got to. One minute I was giving her a bit of a rub down (and not even one of the 'special' massages I save for SWMBO) and the next she'd vanished. Oh well, I expect she'll be back.

*idly wonders what Speicher looks like. Bets teak, deck varnish and diesel engine not involved*

My boss doesn't give me rolls. The financial director has just handed out some doughnuts though.

*hands tea to Arch, offers doughnut*

Yes, more tea for me please.

I will try to compose a short letter to Aunt. It is just so puzzling, to say the least, how unwell, do I need to be, before my mother can see that other people needs do not take precedence. I get the horrifying impression that my mother thinks that I must do as she says, whatever the circumstances. She never sees a situation as it really is, just some version of circumstances that she "wants" it to be. If I do what I feel I can, then that should be sufficient.

Ginger Nuts anyone?

Sorry I disappeared to have a lie down, and fell asleep.
thank you, ginger nuts are excellent for dunking.

Arch, I found some caraway seeds and will now look up the recipe for caraway seed cake. I expect it is just a plain sponge like Madeira.

That is a kind offer, I may use it if necessary. For now it is very helpful to have the light-hearted banter, bons mots etc on here, abd tdr1nka's punny jokes. I knew he would get some mileage out of roofer's tea, but had not imagined just how much.
