I'd just like to add that I've never, ever managed to break a BB cup.
And I don't have a torque wrench.
I have knacked a crank by riding when it was loose though. Good job it was only Sora.

I had a BB cup snap in the frame and then the outer part worked it's way out while I was out riding. I had to pedal home using one leg!
The first I knew of the problem was when I heard a strange 'pinging' noise which was, I now know, the bearings being flicked up the down tube by the crank!
