Night Train

Mawning, I am tired. I was up til 3.30 sewing my stage costume. Would have had a lie in but one of the cats, Orange, is going to the vet's with an injured leg this morning. Don't know what happened to him.

At least I get to spend the day with M today.

Just back from the vet's. Orange has a huge tumor on the inside of his thigh, tests tomorrow to see if it is bad or very bad. Best option is amputation of his leg but that is dependent on his overall health and if it has spread. He is 16 so it isn't looking good.

Sorry to hear your sad news Night Train. I have a cat, so I sort of know how you feel. I hope the vet can make Orange comfortable.

Yeah, poor Orange. <cliche alert> He's had a good innings mind, and hopefully, a happy one? Best of luck with it all....

My word, I think Sunday was the hardest ride I ever had.... <splutter>

No, not like that! What a headwind! Down to bottom gear on the flat on the causeway (probably a good thing, as that was when my elderly rear tyre gave up the ghost and went flat, so a good thing it wasn't at any speed). And it seemed to just get worse and worse on the way back to Wooler. This is how tired I was: when we got back to Wooler, we stopped at the Co op on the way to the hostel to buy stuff for supper and after we'd picked up pasta and sauce and salad, TheDoc said "shall I get some cheese too?" and I was so exhausted, I just stood in the middle of the aisle and whined "I don't care...."

Still, after a sit down, a reving cup of char and a shower, I'd recovered enough to wolf down a very nice supper... Luckily, the wind stayed the same way, so we had a tailwind to get back to Berwick on Monday morning....

Saturday was a true Tea? ride. About 20-25 miles, with 3 stops for tea and food....;)

Hmm. I passed Arch and The Doc as they were arriving on the Island and I was leaving. "Enjoy the tailwind on the way back over!" she called cheerily.

It was one of those winds that is a headwind going out, and somehow manages to be a headwind coming back as well. At least I didn't get any flat tyres...

There were quite a number of exhausted, wind-blown people at Wooler.

Poor old Orange. And what a great name for a cat. Ginger, one assumes?

Hmm, yes, I came to regret that... Turned out the tailwind was only for a few yards before the road turned a corner and then swept into the wind - which seemed to be coming from both one side AND straight ahead! Having done the same on the way over....

By the time we got back to Wooler, we got a few admiring remarks from those who got back earlier, and reckoned the wind had just got worse since!

Still, the ride to Berwick was nice on Monday. And TheDoc doesn't seem to have been put off Northumberland for life....;)
