Tea? (Part 1)

Then again, maybe I would...

I was in Montmartre in January, but I didn't buy anything. No, really I didn't. We enjoyed the Moulin Rouge though.

Mr Wafflycat & I had an evening at the Moulin Rouge in November. It was 'interesting'. Glad we went as it's very French in character. Did they have the tank with pythons & swimming girl when you went? Did you have a meal at MR first or just the show? Those girls on stage needed a darned good feeding up. And either they were very cold or they'd found a novel place to stick wine corks...

The hotel Mr Wafflycat & I stayed in was literally just around the corner, the Villa Royale, which was glorious fun. I did indeed take Mr Wafflycat into a certain kind of shop. He was *most embarassed* but I pointed out that there's somethings a girl has to do at least once before she reaches her fiftieth year... we were not the oldest in said emporium, which utterly confused Mr Wafflycat and for some reason, he wouldn't let me ask the shop assistants for instructions on how to use some of the items for sale...

We had a glorious weekend in Paris, celebrating being together for twenty years and still fancying the pants off each other - we walked mile after mile, hand in hand, taking in the views, stopping for coffee, cakes, eating out... walking some more... enjoying the hotel

We also had a tour of Montmartre with a chap from HERE who was excellent! The whole idea of the programme is that Parisians will do a tour with you around their part of the city, or a particular theme of the city that they love. It costs nothing other than if there's an entrance fee to somewhere on the tour, you pay for the guide. If you stop for a coffee - you buy the guide one. We spent about five hours with the man who took us around the city he loves, and he gave us a really detailed tour of Montmartre - in almost perfect English. His enthusiasm for and love of Paris was infectious. His day job was as a director ofor an international chemical company, and the PARISIEN D'UN JOUR was somehting he did simply because he loves the city so much. Mr Wafflycat & I had the pleasure of an informed, enthusiastic and charming guide all to ourselves for the whole afternoon. I recommend the service to anyone going to Paris.

The bit with that woman trying to drown the snake? Yes, they had that. It was the 'Ferrie' show, including the most kick-ass can-can I have ever seen (not that I've seen many). We did eat there beforehand - not the best meal I've ever had in France, but I've had a lot worse. The champagne made up for it, and it's very hard to stuff up foie gras anyway. And pannacotta. I can only assume the dancers had eaten there - possibly in 1983 or thereabouts and not since. I think they must have been a bit chilly, from the look of them. It's a wonder they didn't have someones eye out.

We stayed at Citadines - an aparthotel a few minutes away, on the road leading to the Montmartre cemetery. It was a great weekend, walking for miles, looking at the paintings up the hill, most of which were dire, and, well, you can imagine the rest. We've been together 24 years now. That's well over half my life...

I felt we ladies were shortchanged as the blokes had far more attire on them than the ladies had.

Was the unicyclist on stage as you had your meal? He was rather good.

Speicher, I'm not sure I understand your point. Are you suggesting that Arch and I look like each other? If so I'll be round with flowers, but Arch might be round with weapons! Anyway, I'm flattered to be compared with her.

And thanks Waffles! I think Arch has a perfect smile in that photo (the only decent-sized photo I've seen of her, in fact) but no-ones told me I have for,oooh, ages.

Well, in the nicest possible way, I thought there was a similarity. I think that Wafflycat is absolutely right, when she says it is because you both have such lovely and genuine smiles.

* A bunch of flowers would be nice, but being set upon by a tiger is not such a pleasing thought - the tiger being Arch's choice of weapon of course*.

Thanks Speicher. You and Waffles are doing me a world of good this evening. I'm sure being belaboured with a small fluffy tiger would actually be quite nice.

And when I do get over your way for Tea? and scones, flowers are definitely on the agenda too. They'll go nicely in the wicker basket.

Actually, I've been meaning to ask. Any photos of you available? I'd only just got used to thinking of you as looking like a tugboat when you went all feathery. It's a good look - I like owls, especially the one in 'Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH'. An honourable and decent owl, as I'm sure they all are.
