And that is why it's so big and important now, because the damp conditions were ideal for cotton and wool spinning (too dry and the fibres snap easily). Hence Manchester's (and Lancashire's generally) huge Victorian wealth.

I was there for a week (also OU at UMIST) and it did rain every day. Mostly just a shower, but yes, rain every day.

Ok Doc, I can get up a hill for a cafe, no trouble! And thanks, I try that line on my Mum. "No, It's fine, that guy off the interent, he's been vouched for by some other woman off the internet". Maybe not...

OK. Well, I'm leaving contact details and a 'If I'm not back by such and such a time call the police' type note. I expect you're actually an Albanian goat herder with a passionate loathing for infidel cyclists with poncey carbon bikes.

I think "we" would like to go there.

I shall be taking a short break in Bowness on Windermere later this month.
The hotel is 300 metres from the Boat Landing, to get to Ambleside or to go south to Lakeside. Nearby is the Beatrix Potter museum, including the Tailor Of Gloucester Tea Room.

Sounds nice:thumbsup:. Haven't been to the Lake District in years.
Was Windermere the one that Swallows and Amazons was set on?

Can I offer you some tea?

Tea please, to go with my lunch.

I like the Lake District. But not in high summer (?) if we get one.
I have stayed near Keswick a few times, an excellent base, with buses and taxis and lots of boats going up and down the lake. I thought a change would be nice. The hotel has a Spa thingy, with pool, sauna, mini gym etc.

BTW my Physio therapist says I can now have short gentle stints on my exercise bicycle.

Sounds very nice. Are you going alone, or with someone? Should be good either way.

That is excellent news. I'm glad you're on the mend. Take it gradually, and you'll soon be back on the road!

'Phew!' I'll be safe with my scaffold pole MTB then!;)

And for Speicher, a pic of the road off Owler Bar that I took to Bakewell.

Tdr1nka! Come on in, have some tea.

Just had a start date along from Astrium - 12 May.
So that's when I'll be gone from the daytime shift here.

Exactly a month after your Birthday I note!;)

Ermm, no. Not quite. My birthday isn't on the 12th, it's just close to it. Have a look at my profile if you really want to know.

But yes, I'm rather looking forward to it. Lots of changes and (hopefully) good new things...

Three weeks off for TheDoctor, when does Mt Ventoux appear on your schedule?

BTW found a tea shop in Bourton-on-the-Water called the Mad Hatter's Tea Shop.

Also TheDoctor, I was never really "on the road", I was a complete and I do mean complete, beginner last year. For me, on the road would mean the one and bit miles on the cycle track to the railway station.:ohmy::blush::wacko:.
Worcestershire County Council do cycle training for adults, so might have to do that.

I may be living in Oulu, Finland for a year from September. Erasmus exchange scheme between my University and Oulon Yliopisto.

I was there on Monday to sort out some important details, well, I was in the country anyway with my Thai Boxing club, and they were impressed especially with my grasp of Finnish.

So, it's just down to exam results in the Summer then. Really am looking forward to it.

That's over the Bank Holiday weekend. Going on the 3rd May, back on the 6th May. Had I realised what was going to happen job-wise, it would have been a longer trip. And one of the weeks off will be spent over in Ireland doing some more work on my mates house. The one that prompted the photofest from a month or more back, if you remember. Where you said I had a lovely smile.*warm gooey feeling*

Ah, righty ho. I must have missed that. It's hard to remember that when I first dabbled in Tea?, so to speak, it had been going for quite some time. I was just about here for the 1000th post, IIRC.

Oh, cool. Well done you, if that comes off.

Bloody cold and dark in the winter, but Northern Lights...
And very long days in the summer of course!
