Congratulations to Cathode on the egg! And all the better for being a 'happy chicken' egg, not a 'chicken acting out of habit' egg, so to speak...
Well, had a couple of busy days, so not been about - spent yesterday being a recyling collection operative (handy few extra quid!), must have walked a couple of miles in all, back and forth between the doorsteps and the trike/trailer/electric buggy. And getting occasionally splashed by that mix of rainwater, dregs of old wine and beer and god knows what else known as 'box wee'. Still, the weather was lovely and warm and we wombled two perfectly good chairs, a laptop bag and (my favourite) a novelty bottle which once contained M and S whisky, in the shape of an old (like model T type) car.
And thanks to the generous gift of a friend I had staying over the weekend, I must have been the only bin person in York to have fois gras sarnies in my packed lunch.
Just one thing. Why, if people have kerbside recycling and it comes with a leaflet asking you to sort stuff into bags, or whatever the instruction, can't they follow it! Sorting big stuff (bottles etc) out isn't that bad, but having to wrestle open a tightly knotted carrier bag to find it's a mix of tins, jars and stuff we don't take, when you're wearing gloves, is a right pain in the ar*e. And while most people manage to rinse stuff, one kind person yesterday had included a tin still HALF FULL of peas! It's wierd - it's not compulsory to recycle, so you think they must care enough to do it, but they don't care enough to do the simplest things like follow the instructions...
Anyway, it was a nice day, hard work, the hardest physical work I've done for a while, and I'm booked for a couple more days in a fortnight...
