Taking the biscuit
Speicher, I recently submitted my first job application in *ahem* eight years.

To add to my nerves about saying the right things on the form I discovered that of my last two jobs for reference one company had ceased trading six months after I had left and the boss of my last job had died two years ago!!

I have a similar problem with references. Where I worked up until four years ago, has closed down (six months after I left). My other reference is with someone I worked with um ten years ago. Therefore still need to find another one. The person I have in mind is on holiday until Wednesday, and the application has to be in on Friday, That's one of the reasons for doing it on-line.

Speicher, do I remember you doing something with a community centre, or recycling type place, a while back? Could they help? (or is that who you have in mind).

Otherwise, let us know and we'll write you one:

"Dear whoever,

Speicher is a reliable, humorous and very pleasant person, given to random acts of cake and tea. Employ her.

yours,

The Tea? Denizens"

Yes, the recycling type place aka the Pump House. With the orange-powered clock, the bicycle-powered radio, and the secret staircase.

Yes, that's the person I have in mind. I am fairly confident she will say yes to the reference. Her wording may not exactly follow your excellent example, but it could be a close approximation. Because of my back injury, I have not been there since January. ;)

You might like to read a bit more about it at www.dwt.org.uk go to "Education" and scroll down to "Pump House" or follow the link to the Resource Centre (wre.org.uk). Or any other link, lots of interesting ones.

Ah! Cool!

Sounds a bit like the place I work at one day a week (although I don't work for them, I work for a magazine which has an office there...)

Right, well, I'm off home. Laptop is all set up, so I can start reloading my backed up data and stuff.

Must. Not. Play. Solitaire. All. Evening.

I'll have a quick cuppa while my head is spinning from working out how to use my new phone. I got a Sony Ericsson C902 in the end. The Nokia 6220 felt very plasticy and the case didn't fit very well and was very loose. I also looked at the Samsung Tocco. It was a really nice phone but the touch screen would never have survived with my usage.

Yes, they do look very similar. I hoping to see my colleague next week, to see about returning as a volunteer, in some sort of admin capacity.

I was also at Severn Valley Railway on Saturday. They seem to have lot of Platform Staff, in order to comply with Health and Safety Regs. I would quite like standing on a platform on a Steam Railway Line, or Diesel for that matter, and assisting people with their questions. ;) I used to be a Ticket Inspector, but that is extremely hard work and a very long day.

Does that mean I may have hidden in a toilet to avoid you in the past?
I must apologise.;)

Be careful, don't upset the Ticket Inspectors.

(you do not want to get locked in the toilet, do you?)

I realise that today's trains carry a shortage in Inspectors. But the general idea is, that I would be on the same train as you, not thirty miles away as you sped past at 90 miles an hour - my eyesight is not that good - perhaps I need new glasses. ;)

The Severn Valley Steam Railway (between Kidderminster and Bridgenorth). nb Your observations skills may have let you down, see my post from 9pm last night. ;);)

One of the Inspectors I did "runs" with used to like to have a competition with me. Who can spot the most dogs without a ticket?
