I have been busy this week. I had an interview at the Library on Tuesday. I think they were unsuccessful. I was asked to attend for 9.15am and to be there ten minutes early. Fair enough, but they did not open the Library doors until 9.10 ish. While waiting, I could easily hear a long conversation about people who were Relief Staff from other branches, and how they were three staff short that day.
When I left at 10.30 they still had 8 people to interview before lunch?
Met one of the other candidates. A student studying English, who has previous Work Experience in a much larger Library.
So, if I took a job there on Saturdays, who would find the time for any training? Answer: says I - no-one. I would spend all day issuing books.
I am sure I can find a more interesting job somewhere else. They have a review coming up in January (which year do they get the result
). Please note slight air of sarcasm.
I am returning as a Volunteer at the Environment Centre tomorrow. Helping with the accounts etc. They, for some reason, lost lots of Volunteers recently. Are they thinking of employing someone instead?
Shall I ask the Part-time Admin Person at the Resource Centre how he carved out a job for himself under the "New Deal" scheme, whereby employers get financial incentives to create new jobs?
Failing that the Oxfam manager needs Office help, and Marie Curie Cancer Care are desperate for admin people. Choices, choices. "Softly softly catch the monkey".
