I was wondering why you would weld it.

Cos it broke, see photos further above.
Nearly all the teeth got broken off and so it won't drive now. To get a temporary fix I have welded the gears together so that it will still drive. My friend in the USA is going to look for some replacement gears for me so I might be able to get it running properly again.

I will, in the meantime, design and build a much stronger axle but the fix will allow me to get the tractor out for field testing.

Yes, just a temporary fix. I have no idea how long it will last though, and whether or not it will just go bang the first time I turn a corner with it.

Afternoon! Just enjoying a while Max has a nap. We've been on a train to Southampton today, and went to IKEA, where we had free coffee (well, I had hot chocolate), thanks to K's Ikea card. Then we did some shopping, and had meatballs for lunch, and CAKE.

Then we came back on the train, and in an hour or so, we'll go and pick up Oli from school.
