Ahem.

I stand corrected. Apparently, some of the people to whom I referred in an earlier post are not Geordies. They are Mackems.

It all sounds the same to me, but there you go.... I'm not even from T'North...

Is Uncle Phil saying they call it Lassee in Geordie Land?
Should not he have put t instead of s?
Do I have to shout to be understood?
Do you think I am a complete nincompoop?
Have you got those cannibals over the river yet? ;);)
^ remembered the smileys

I see (and can read) where your coming from, Speich! I was just taking it one step beyond!

Shouting has its uses from time to time.
Er, NO, I don't think you're a complete nincompoop!

The cannibals and missionaries are still on the right-hand side of the river! They're waiting for a chicken to swim it first!

;) I was trying to be witty, and failed, again.
I usually only correct people tiny mistakes in posts if it is witty, this is the T / Tea thread is not it? ;)

To anyone from Deepest Darrrrzet, they're both equally foreign.

When I first moved oop ere, it took me a while of dealing with farmers before we began to understand each other. I don't have much of an accent normally, but it does begin to kick in when I HAVE TO SHOUUUT OOVER THE BLUDDY TRACTURR ENGINE!

"Now then" as a greeting is disconcerting to begin with.

Now then, what? Oh, you mean Hello. Right then.

Reminds me of working in Finland, and being told that when a Finn or a Swede talks about someone "talking Norwegian", he means the person in question is so drunk they're throwing up.

Charming.

Arch, what about down tube gear levers? Or levers mounted on the stem?

I've got a set of 8-speed down tube levers in The Box. We gave a bike to BikeRescue that had double stem levers. They were friction ones, but the stem-mount could be used as a mount for the 8-speed indexed ones....

Ah, you read my mind. The Gal had downtube shifters to start with and I still have them. It occurred to me today that I can refit them just to get the bike running, then see how the bars work and not buy thumbshifters specially if the bars are not going to suit me. Once I'm sure about the bars, I will install the downtube cable endstops Landslide so kindly sent me, and hook up to whichever type of shifter suits the eventual bars.

It will also work because the gear cable oilers are out of stock at the moment, so I can fit the brake ones, leave the gears plain and get the oilers when they are in stock and retrofit them later.

Dammit, I could be one monumental fettling away from having this bike on the road. Although the bits are at the office, and I'm not in until Thursday and away over the weekend, and then working full time next week (that'll be a shock to the system!), so I'm not sure it'll be in time for the CC ride on the 25th. Anyway, would I want to take a newly built up bike on a 50 mile ride with a load of experts, in case it falls apart under me....;)

Oh, I must get some replacement skewers eventually, the old anodised blue ones were ok with the blue/silver look, but clash a bit with the red....

Wow, just thinking all that has worn me out. Tea anyone?

Wouldn't that be the ideal time? Lots of willing hands to fix it for you. They'd have you back on the road in no time.

There is that. I would just hope it didn't turn out to be something I'd balls up...

Maybe I can spend a few evenings on it next week, and get a little shakedown ride in on Saturday.

I guess a 50 miler will also help me decide about the bars, sharpish. Oh, bar tape! <adds to list>
