Taking the biscuit
I hit a rut in the nearside of wet road. Basically I was too close to the verge as there was traffic a bit further behind.

We'd just come up a hill I was pushing hard and checking behind me when I felt the front wheel tramline to the left.
In trying to lift the front out of the rut, the back then went in, hit clay and slid sideways and I was sharply and noisily lowsided onto the road on my right hand side, still clipped in.

No damage to the bike, thankfully.

I, on the other hand, now have a very sore a*se and a cranky right ankle.

Ningles!!!

That, Speicher, is a nice looking watch. I didn't fully appreciate it yesterday because of all the mud.

Some time ago, Arch made reference to that fact that it sounded like I live in 1944. If further proof were needed, it has come to my notice that the Sweet Shop that used to be a market stall has closed.

However, it is expanding  (as are some of its customers) and opening a new shop in the centre of town. The Cycle Shop expanded last year, and one shoe shop has also doubled in size. (yes, yes, it has gone pear-shaped, I know  )

Pair-shaped, surely? It's the greengrocers that's gone pear-shaped.

If you're posh it might go Peer Shaped, like them lot in the 'Ouse o' Lords.

Just uploading some pics from yesterday's Audax, I'll stick a few in here too.

Once that's done I'm, going to have a cup of tea and stick the bike in the bath to get rid of yesterday's mud.

The effects of rationing? ;)

Cheers Helen, yes it was a bit hilly at times, but in the direction we were going, they were mostly long slow slogs, rather than anything stupidly steep. It would be fun to do it the other way sometime, to have a go at going down them.

Apparently, Tigerbiten made it to 49.6mph down Blue Bank.:eek::eek:

I maxed out at 38 somewhere along the ride - might have been Blue Bank, there was no way I could look at the speedo as I went down.

Cycling over the Golden Gate sounds good. I like bridges. The Northern FNRttC in June went to Cleethorpes via the Humber, and hopefully they are going to do it again this year, and I can join in.

Now, dinner. Carbonara, I think, since I have eggs and bacon.

I think that tea went cold, I'll make some fresh.

First proper wintry commute home today, dark and wet. Good thing I'm on the winter hack now, with dynamo and hub everything.
