Mornings! Soon to be off for the last shaking of the Poppy Appeal tin. I am going sur velo today - the 'bent. That should raise a few eyebrows in mid-Norfolk! Naturally the 'bent' is decorated (in a loose meaning of the word) with a big poppy on the back.

Yay!!
There's nothing like a ride to get the day off to a good start.
Except for a brew, of course.

Well, I have the last bits (until I find something else missing) for the Galaxy. BikeRescue told me they didn't sell universal straddle cables, but sold me some off-cuts of brake cable, and the pair of yokes (non-matching) I needed, for a quid. And gave me a couple of crimp-on ferrules for the ends.

I've been on a bit of a spree, got some work trousers (should get the money back for them), and a wind up bike light to replace the enormous one I got last year - this is about a quarter the size! Also a pannierful of groceries. Now, I have to do a little light laundry, and then I have no further excuse not to cable up the fiddley bits of the Galaxy.

Next Sunday is going to be a heck of a day. Admin's birthday ride, a new Dr Who and a new series of Top Gear. I bet the last two clash, but then TG is always repeated...

Evenings!!
I've just been watching Brainiac, as you do, and am appalled to see that Vic Reeves is presenting it now.
Where is the Hamster????

Stuck under the floorboards?

Well, I seem to have a new (old) bike. First proving run will be over to Pete's later. The brakes will need tweaking, as they always do, and the gears, and I've got a sticky link in the chain. But I seem to have attached all the bits, in the right order, and only got my finger trapped in the front mech once...

I'll take a pic in a nice uncluttered background later....

Now I'm sitting here in my jimjams, thinking about breakfast. After a large curry last night, I'm not quite peckish enough yet for the bacon sandwich I promised myself.

Vic Reeves makes most things more surreal!

mmm, that was a cracking bacon sarnie!

I've realised something. Yesterday I bought a little wind up bike light - I bought one a couple of years back and it was huge, this is about a quarter the size, so I thought I'd compare them. Anyway, it's RAC branded, so the body is orange. I've bunged it on the Gal, in case we end up out afer dusk. I haven't taped the bars yet, because I may want to fiddle with the lever position, but I have some temporary bar tape courtesy of Soltydog, to use until I'm sure the bars are right for me. It's orange. It'll clash with the bike, but it'll match the damn light!

Morning. I type this through the visual disturbances that indicate a migraine developing swiftly. Watching the Cenotaph proceedings - Gordon Brown irritates me more and more - this morning it was a small but IMO an important thing. At the laying of the wreaths, heads are bowed (or salutes given if you're representing the Forces). Gordo - putting the first 'civilian' wreath on the Cenotaph, in his role as PM... did he bow his head? Even slightly? No, Twerp. At least Cameron & Clegg did that small but decent action of respect that Brown couldn't manage. Bah!

Tea on the go?
