I am assuming that you will have one thin and one fatter leg, so how are they planning on fattening up the booted leg to match the other one or will it just happen over time ?
Both legs are equally thin but one is very Chris Hoy and the other is a bit sparrowesque! ;)

Once the boot is off I will be offered exercises that will rebuild the muscles. The physio was noticing that there was significant muscle wastage in my poorly leg.

Quite interesting having a young woman stroking my calf muscles!

ETA: She was also stroking my thighs and saying something about loss of tone but I didn't notice.

Oh I thought it would only be the booted leg for some reason.

I had some physio on my hip last year and I cant say it was unpleasent ;)

Physio is good. TBH the sessions are very brief as she obviously knows just what is needed at this early stage an most of it is probably routine for her given my circumstances.

My right leg has got progressively stronger and more toned up as it has done more then its usual share of the work. My left leg has weakened considerably. The calf muscle wasteage was expected but there is also loss of muscle tone (Oh, that's what the physio was on about! ) in my left thigh as well. I am able to work the quads a bit just lifting the boot around but the hamstring gets hardly any work at all.

Talking of, kinda, I've just been reading the Get Claire Walking website. She "had a freak accident while competing at Osberton Horse Trials in May 2007. She collided with a tree which resulted in fractures to her neck, back and ribs. She suffered a punctured lung, pneumonia, had to have a tracheotomy to help her breathe and was in intensive care for 10 days.

She raised £200,000 for Spinal Research at this year's London Marathon and has launched her Challenge for 2013:

I am in the process of getting very fit for the 2013 challenge. I plan to cycle from Paris to London April 2013. My aim is to do it with my paralysed legs and some help with my arms using a hand bike. I am training on my static FES bike trying to get my legs as strong as possible. The FES bike has electrodes that are placed on my legs that makes my muscles contract in the correct order to get the pattern of movement for cycling. It is as hard work as anyone cycling but the signal to pedal usually goes from brain to legs via the spinal cord, with me the signal is straight onto the muscle. I have used a static bike for 3 years, but i am increasing my hours on the bike and static hand bike. My road FES bike comes at the end of the month so I am looking forward to getting out on it and seeing how far I can get and if I can manage hills! I want to raise money for Spinal Research again next year- all the help they can get to push on towards a cure will helps so many people in the future.
Amazing woman.

So that's it until the Para-Olympics then?

I'm going to spend a bit of time on my physio stretches and exercises now, I may be some time.:training:

Medal chances?

They seem to be thinking we have a chance in the discus.

Discuss.

Also, Shanaze Read in the BMX.

If you mean just cycling, then
