I won't ask where you're wearing them.

Why does a pedal powered blender have to involve a wheel and tyre?
*stops being rikki difficult*

Now NT has rigged the blender to a rack, it can be put on a bike and become a mobile pedal powered smoothie maker [or was that the idea  ]

Good to see that you got all those knobs off [on one side] Arch.

I think it's just an evolving idea. The commercial smoothie maker kits bolt on a rack and sit behind the rider - and cost hundreds! We wanted one that sat in front, so the rider could see the action. It's not a mobile machine, but it's been designed to fold and fit on a bike trailer to take to events.

I think the basic wheel drive was just the simplest way to do it, bearing in mind it's all out of old scrap bikes. Direct pedal drive to the blender would involve machining a lot of specific parts.

This is only the start, I suspect, and a bit of a rush as the event is next weekend.

NT did ask which colour he should paint it from his stock of paint, red or grey. Red of course, it'll go faster!

Bit of a lazy start to the day, first :cuppa: now.

Because it's an easy way of transferring the power through 90 degrees. The rubber coated armature of the old motor touches the tyre and as the tyre turns so does the armature. A bit like a bottle dynamo. That's also why the knobs on the tyre had to be removed on one side.

Edit: Arch beat me to it. Oh look, we're on page 1400.

If we'd had a smoother tyre, we'd have used that, but the knobbly was all we had to hand at NT's. If there's a decent scrap smooth one over at my place, we might swap it. Although I like the inherent madness in sawing half the knobbles off that one. NT and I worked together, giggling over the absurdity of it, and wondering which of us was madder...

And yes, in theory I guess the rack could be moved to another 26" wheeled bike, although it's been a bit bent to fit. But we like the ability to see the blender in front in action.

The main reasons are to turn the direction of rotation 90degs and also to gear up the speed.
The tyre being 25" diameter at the contact point and the blender motor being about 1.5" diameter gives an increase in speed of about 17:1.
Need speed to blend I think.

There are no plans to make the system transferable to a mobile bike, that wasn't in the specifications, it just needed to be transportable on a trailer. The public are supposed to do the pedaling, under supervision.
I suppose it saves a load of people messing about with a much loved mode of transport at an event. I wouldn't want 'all and sundry' using my bike to make smoothies so I would never volunteer to have the system fitted. I would, however, be happy to tow it there.

Arch and I baked a pile of blackberry, raspberry and apple cupcakes for Arch's work's do next weekend, Not Just Apple Day.
We colour coordinated the paper cases but I think it is obvious which are which!

When they cool most of them will be frozen ready for the weekend and I will take them over along with the smoothie maker and the lighthouse (though the lighthouse isn't for Not Just Apple day).

Yes good point. Also, I fear actually riding while smoothieing (smoothing?) might lead to spillage....
