I could not possibly comment on whether you have "it". ;):biggrin::laugh:

You could pretend as well

On my second cup of the day, I'm glad I didn't have my usual lie in as one of the cats had been locked in the shed over night. He's very attentive now but I'm not sure he's intelligent enough not to do it again.

The only complete sets of dvds that I own is Due South series one, two and three.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

It is, of-course, the voice, the intelligence, the ingenuity, that is so wonderful.:biggrin: (Did you notice that in Eastwick, his hair is below his collar?)

Have you seen "Men with Brooms"?

Wooo! Fun day! I hope you find something suitable.

Leaf based beverage for me, to wash down a pig based sandwich. The weather forecast isn't good, so I'm going to spend the day slobbing about. I almost decided not to get dressed, but I gave in - I might have exert myself and get some milk later - typically I forgot it when I went shopping yesterday.

Had a curry out last night - left my korma comfort zone and had a dhansak. Coped ok, although wished I had a lassi to cool it down instead of the beer....

Now, I must not spend all day online, I must do a little tidying too.

Fantastic!! I expect mini-T is bouncing off the ceiling with excitement
We should get her on a FNRttC next year.

If dansak is a little warm, might I suggest something like Chicken Tikka Massala? It's a notch up from the Korma Kameleons of this world, but not quite as far as dansak. All the coconut cream mellows it down a bit.

oh thanks - I'd assumed CTM was just like korma.

One reason I went for the dhansak was the name - I've been joking with a colleague this week about the plastic bags we sort drinks into - they are 'ali can sacks' which sounds like you should be able to order it with naan bread.

There's a whole range of lentil-based dishes to try.
The basic dhal is fairly mild, and there's also tarka dhal, which is a little 'otter.

Good luck with the new bike Miss T

Dhal is excellent for making at home in industrial quantities, it's cheap, tasty, filling and perfect for the freezer, I'll be popping out later for some toms, garlic and chillies to stink the house out later.
I had a rogan josh last night, I could get into the habit of someone else cooking for me once a week, they're excellent people up there and will even sell you beer while you wait.

Got a recipe for dhal? I sometimes make what we called 'lentil curry' at home, but I don't suppose it's very authentic - I do use a curry paste as opposed to the curry powder which was pretty much all you got in 1970's Belfast.

I'm wondering about getting a freezer. My fridge has an ice box, and I manage with it but any bulk cooking is not really practical, it would fill it up completely. On the other hand, I don't mind cooking each night, in fact I like it, but it means I tend to stick to fairly quick dishes, and some things really benefit from long cooking - I never make soup for example. And it would be nice to be able to stock up with bread and stuff.

I like a Jalfrezi, or like Longers , a Rogan Josh.

No, I have not seen ""Men with Brooms" - except for the builder when he finished working in the garage. No surprise that they thought a film on the subject would be good. How long did the men need to practice?
What is the follow-up film going to be? "Men tidying up?"

Got a recipe for dhal?
Yep, this is one I got off a packet of split mung beans and works every time. It's worth buying the spices from a shop selling such things as the supermarkets work out very pricey for smaller quantities if you see what I mean.

Sindh Mung Dhal

250g yellow mung dal - split mung beans I think
4 chopped tomatoes
2 chopped green chillies
12 curry leaves - use more if using dried not fresh
1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1 tbsp of ground coriander
1 tbsp of lemon juice
pinch of Asafoetida - supposed to help with windage issues and does add a little flavour
2 tbsp butter or ghee - butter works fine but ghee does taste a bit better
1 tsp cumin seed
3 garlic cloves chopped

I think this serves four and would keep in the fridge most of the week I should think if freezer space is an issue. I make double or triple the amount and use more chillies as this is fairly mild I think and I don't do too hot.

Rinse and drain the mung beans and set to boil rapidly in 700ml of water, discard the froth with slotted spoon. Then simmer for half an hour. You might need to add a bit of water later on, see how it goes.

After half an hour of simmering chuck everything in except the garlic, butter/ghee and cumin and stir it well. Set it to bubble gently.

Heat the butter/ghee in a separate pan and toast the cumin and garlic until the garlic goes golden brown then wang it in the pan and I cook it all gently for another hour.

Madhur Jaffrey reckons you should have a glass of milk with this for optimum nutritional benefits.

I'd struggle without my freezer as it'd work out dearer for me to cook fresh every night.

Thanks Longers. That looks yummy!

Arch - my freezer gets loads of use. I make batches of soup and bread and often make double or triple portions of dinner and stick one in the freezer. It helps that I have a microwave at work because sometimes I don't have the time or ingredients to make sandwiches so just pull a meal/soup out of the freezer. Job done!
