With regard to the Recorder, what does "HMDI" out mean? I have taken notice of what you and Night Train said about the number of scart(s). There is also a machine with "comp video out, s video in, scart in and scart out".Can you translate that into English please.

Blue ray dvd players
Playstation 3 games consoles etc.

This type of cable is needed to give you the HD picture.

I am struggling to calculate just how many boxes of profiteroles would need to fall on your head, or anyone's head for that matter, before there was a remote risk of injury. Big mess on the floor, yes, but serious injury?

How much does each box weigh? 200 grams? admittedly that is the weight of the profiteroles, the box would be half as much again - allow 300 grams per box......

That is probably not needed then, as I do not play games consoles, or own any blue ray dvds. The important thing might be to be able to record one programme while watching another. So the machines with two scarts would be more relevant.

Main thing to remember is when you are recording from the built in freeview, you cannot change channels to watch something else. But you can watch your Sky tv channels or a dvd, or something you have previously saved to your HDD(hard disc drive)

You could also do with checking how many scart sockets you have free on your TV, as if you have no spare ones another connection method will be needed.

Maybe, but don't forget the new one needs an aerial lead to get the freeview channels.

You may need to link the new dvd and video recorder if you are keeping that, as that is where the aerial will be plugged into now.

Just when I thought I was beginning to get the hang of this.

It is very kind of you to explain this to me. On previous occasions when I have started a thread about questions like this, lots of people have replied, but with conflicting advice and in very advanced terminology. I have then lost track of who was saying what. I will cogitate on the things above and have another think about what I need the machine(s) to be able to do.

While I was in the shop, the lady demonstrated the difference between Freeview and HD Freeview. If she had not in the end told me the differences, then I am sure I would not have noticed. The badge on the army person's hat was a tad clearer in HD, and the writing on the sandbags was a tad clearer. I was left with the impression that details of that nature were not in fact relevant to the plot. Seeing as how they were firing rifles and throwing grenades at the time. I suppose if you were a Military Historian, it might be important. Anyway, I digress. Ask the tv shop to demonstrate the difference for you.

We kept our video for a while, but just used it to watch old videos by plugging it into the TV only and having no aerial going in to it.
I'll have a better look at mine tomorrow and explain properly how it is connected up, though it could all change if the new TV I'm looking at becomes a reality.
