Very very impressed! I now know that I can safely say I'm never going to attempt to learn Greek. Haven't watched the video yet as I'm waiting for a quiet moment! But I will.
A slightly better video in the one below. The confusion at the start was caused by Mrs B not being able to get the camera to record - I was going to help but then, as you hear, she realised it was working. I think I'm much better, and sing better songs, now but haven't bothered to record anything since that 2014 trip when I first had a go!

What "new Irish" song are you taking with you this time then?

A jumped up pantry boy, who never knew his place
Good afternoon from sunny Maidstone. ^_^

I had a horrible thing happen yesterday. I was experimenting with making Agar jelly and was trying to set strawberries in the jelly. It was all going quite well but then I went to check whether it was setting in the fridge. Now...I have two fridges; a small fridge in the kitchen and a larger one which is at the top of the stairs which go down to the cellar. The jelly was in the latter. Somehow I managed to drop the half set jelly whilst removing it from the fridge. It tumbled all the way down the stairs and landed on the cellar floor, somehow managing to deposit half set jelly and strawberries on each and every step of the stairs. The thing is that the stairs are carpeted....and being not very good at keeping up with housework, I hadn't hoovered them in a long time.... so they were...er... rather dusty to say the least! Clearing up the mess was really not pleasant!
:hugs:Ouch!

Watched it now. I really don't know how you do it! Such a difficult language. Well done.^_^

Thank you.:thanks:

What helps is that I don't worry about making a fool of myself so I just have a go to see what happens. The singing has gone pretty well but holding a conversation is different as I'm completely self taught and can say quite a bit so well that the Cypriots think I'm fluent and reply at their normal rapid speed which leaves me struggling to understand much, if anything. The grammar and syntax is so different to English that it's a battle I don't ever expect to win.

On my last trip I came across a book that is aptly named, "Learn Greek in 25 years". I think that is being optimistic!!

Any other language learned is great. Even a few words can break the ice and make a cafe or bar visit on holiday a much better experience. I know lots of odd words in all sorts of languages that can be useful in all sorts of occasions.
My last 'success' in international relations was a friendly word in Japanese to a family watching the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace a while ago.
Greek, however, I know only two words. Three, if you count 'Retsina'

Getting a round in, in Gaelic, back the the West a few years ago is my best success to date. And not the first of the night either.
