In a few weeks time it will be 6 months of earring of the day with a different pair of earrings each day. I will have raised £250 for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Not a fortune I know but the aim is to complete a year. I'm not toting for sponsors, by the way! Its strictly a family and friends thing. But I thought you might like to know that there is some point to my seemingly trivial earring posts! ^_^

I've always loved wearing earrings and I don't think I've ever thrown any away over the last 40 odd years! So - its fun uncovering some old favourites. The reason for the chosen charity is that my mother was blind since before I was born and always had a Guide dog. She couldn't see my earrings but she loved to have a good feel! And she also loved to wear earrings. Sadly, she died last year (aged 97) - so the earring posts are a sort of tribute to her.

Good afternoon @0lonerider, @Blue, @classic33

I think humidity is the killer. I lived in Egypt for a while and found it bearable because it was dry heat. I've never understood why people like going to Florida! But do you have air-con? That makes a difference.
Oh yes, we have AC, thank goodness!!!!

That's the same charity that gets most support amongst our family.

It started off as the favourite of one of the inlaws who had a brain tumour when she was nineteen that left her in a wheelchair.

She died about six years ago aged forty, and ever since then if there's any sponsoring that's where the money goes.

Its a great cause. I grew up with two different Guide dogs in the house and can vouch for the way they transformed my Mum's life. In all, she had a succession of 5 guide dogs. After a certain age they are retired to a good home (or sometimes kept by the owner). Latterly, my Mum's old dogs were adopted by my sister.

One could add about 20 to that temp here - the uv index is at 8 at the moment and the air is still. I'll have to leave my daily hike until 4pm and even then I know it will be a sweat fest today.

We will be heading home in just over 2 weeks and whilst sad to be leaving Cyprus we agree it is starting to get too hot here. The locals aren't expecting any rain until October! The problem isn't just the heat though - it's the high humidity, which makes the summer nights as hard to take as the heat of the summer days. Despite knowing that we couldn't take the summer here we are expecting to be on a massive downer when we get home because we have had such a great time here.

2 other UK couples spent the winter in the same apartment block and they are both home as of yesterday. However, like us they have already booked return.
Humidity was a killer when I worked I Spain in the 80s, I couldn't handle it now! Wouldn't mind a cycling tour round Ireland though

A friend of mine bought a hotel in Florida and moved the family over there, he sharp moved back when the hotel on the next block started to disappear into a sinkhole.

When I was eighteen I saw a job advertised for guide dog trainers at a centre in Bolton, I was tempted to apply until I saw the pay and hours and went a bit mercenary.

Every now and then I see them walking round our local Tesco.
