Good evening from Maidstone. The lawn (calling it a lawn is a stretch of the imagination) has been cut. Cinnamon Buns have been cooked. That was an adventure in itself, as I misread the recipe and cut the dough strips the wrong way, ending up with yards of dough to somehow 'tie into a knot'. It sort of worked in the end. I will show you a photo tomorrow.

I use cinnamon in a fruit loaf, I used to buy Schwartz ground cinnamon but was in Aldi and picked up their version, finer ground and more pungent. You get the aroma (?) as soon as you slice the loaf but the taste isn't overpowering.
Mind you, I do love a cinnamon bun with icing etc etc...

I love buns:laugh:

Off for some shuteye, 'rounders' later:okay:

Nice in apple tart too.

Not long back from dads and electric blanket has been on for about twenty minutes so might head through to bed. Not tired yet though so no doubt the ipad will be getting used for a bit before I switch the light off eventually.

Morning all.

You may remember that I am just returning to cycling after 2 and a half years off my bike. I am gradually building up the miles, with lots of little rides, typically between 10 and 20 miles. Yesterday afternoon I got myself ready to go out for a 20 miler, and it started pee-ing down (yay!!! did we ever need that......), so I sat in my kit waiting for it to stop, and therefore didn't get out until 5.30 or so. I thought I knew the route, but I must have missed a turn somewhere. I only had a rear light, and with an overcast sky it was getting dark early, so I couldn't bimble along as I had planned. I had to get back before dark. Anyway, long story short, I ended up doing 38 miles........nothing at all when you're fit, but I'm only just getting back into this, so I'm not....... and I'll even admit to stopping on the last hill. I was absolutely cream crackered afterwards, and walking downstairs this morning was something of a trial.

Ho hum......I survived, and it will have done my fitness some good. Today I am starting to put the slates on my workshop roof (if I can climb the ladder!!!), a roof I built 2 and a half years ago! I hope you all have a nice day. I won't be around until this evening.

I always double the cinnamon in any recipe, and am still disappointed that the taste isn't strong enough. A few days ago I found a mystery packet in the back of a cupboard, which was so old that the writing had worn off the outside. All I could read was "sweet spice". I was going to chuck it, so opened it to put the contents in the food bin and the bag in recycling, but it turns out the contents were 100% fine, so we thought we'd give them a try in a batch of cinnamon buns. It was fantastic! There are at least 3 spices in there, with a hint, just a hint, of ginger. The good news is that the bag is huge (for a bag of spices). The bad news is that we'll never be able to buy the stuff again, because we have no way of reading what it was or who made it or sold it.
