we had the age old, 'Qualie', (Qualifying exam)
a system whereby you sat exams, English and Maths in your final Primary school which determined your next school.
I 'passed' and got allocated a place in the High School..
didn't do me much good..
My English grammar is shockingly bad and this was never picked up
and later in life, I saw an ex-classmate thanking the English teacher for all her extra work pushing him on to be an author (he also mentioned another well-known (late) author she helped)..
I came across a few instances of 'what part of town' you came from...
plus I'll admit I annoyed the life out of the staff..

even as a parent,
similar stuff happened along the line but Mrs M didn't let any go..
one of my kids was being encouraged not to sit higher computing...
result ended up, he did at another school..
and now lectures in the subject at uni..
there are other instances I could mention..
the school system is result driven now.....
how many kids are they throwing to achieve league table places?

We'd the 11+/11 Plus exam if you wanted to try for certain schools. Fail and you went to the same schools as everyone else.

Annoyed the teachers, and you got away intact. No piece of chalk on yer head, or blackboard duster flying at you!!

Current system is run for the school's benefit, not those they're supposed to be teaching. Return it to the benefit of those who are being taught.

You got yer priorities wrong, feed yourself the feed your plants.
I'll try, no promises though.

Can't say I were a fan of red. Or any other bright colours for that matter.

You never just closed yer eyes and ate any of them.

Got on with most of the teachers. Some refused to trust me, one even prevented me from doing chemistry past the 3rd year. He said he didn't feel safe when I was in the class. Another, "Mad Jack" found a stash of fake £1 notes in one of my books and thought he'd hit the jackpot.

I even made the lofty heights of class prefect for a while.

Flowering and fruiting - twice weekly(tomorite) and others once (miracle gro)...

I admit to having teachers I would listen and learn,
geography, art (I can't draw for peanuts) and chemistry.
maths, english were drudges...
PE I hated but got dispensation from most of it because I played goalie for the year football team...
Social dancing? I 'danced' with the same partner which made life easier for the two of us..
They even tried to convince me to stay on but needs were more important.
I never ever had a leather school bag/satchel, I had a tartan duffle bag

Scottish education was once considered the best in the world,
too many (now) educationalists are ruining it with their 'ideas'
Mrs M worked in education and finally got that frustrated with the paperwork,
she escaped first chance...
paper trails justifying the overstaffing of administration..
don't get me started on council staffing levels..

One teacher wanted me join a local running club. The were a bit "stuck up" then and still are now. Someone running because they can and enjoy doing so doesn't sit well with them.

Drama, I couldn't see the point of. I'm convinced that for a while, we'd the same "progressive thinking" teacher I'd last seen in the infants. "Your a bee, flying around from flower to flower" and we were expected to prance around the room as though you were one.

I loathed Drama at school. Then I got a job in theatre as Youth work for several years.

The point was generally to show my young people that they were capable of many things and help them build up their own self confidence through storytelling.

Mind you we had some interesting moments, like the time we had "forgiveness" as our theme, and the group decided to do a piece on sexual abuse (this is in a church service, I may add, thank goodness for our understanding pastor) The piece itself was a conversation between two sisters where one finally told the other about serial abuse as a child. They played it played brilliantly, but afterwards one of the actors came and said "um... that was me and I never told anyone. I think I need some help..."

That's what drama lessons should be there for...

i thought the plant out front was a clematis, the label said different.
I know how could I make that mistake..
it was the first 'flower' bud showing that I thought, 'Bob, yer an eejit'

I see a white clematis on one of regular outs so might have a closer look at the variety, I'll ask if anyone about..

Easy mistake, they all lookalike to me. You need to get the label, dig it up and take it back saying it's not as described.
Won't argue with you on that bit. You know yourself better than me.

And if they're similar, what's yer plan of action, going forward.

The label was at the back of the wooden container,
it almost popped its clogs last year with a fungal disease but I treated and did a wee prune here and there and it is now booming but was starting to show the odd leaf being affected again so a change of position to see if that would help, first buds appearing and that's where I saw it wasn't what I thought, eejit.
I've got a variety of white Clematis in my mind but will wait until mid-autumn to plant..

it bears seed and rots, falls then start the process again..

You should still have a case for mis-describing the product. I'd take it back if I were you.
A plant buried, popping its clogs. you'd have dug it up and binned it.

At the last house,
I tried with clematis and tried, never any joy..

I got shown once on how to grafting..
I did 10 examples and only one failed
Part of my winter work for around 10 plus years was in or more doing outside winter work at the council greenhouses.
Some total brain killing jobs...
I got the outside potting shed to work in...

Dad was good at grafting. He had about 8 apple trees and most of them had several grafts from other varieties on them.
