I'm going to attempt Ventoux next year, we have a 2 week cycling holiday planned and will spend 2 or 3 days at various places in France before setting off to Ventoux for a couple of days and hopefuly tackle it with decent weather and little wind :hyper:
Great bike rack facilities in the alps, as demostrated by the boys from the club

I'm sure Bill will join me in crossing our fingers. The missus negotiations can more often than not be the toughest part of these events.
I see you liking this comment young Richard, you wouldn't know about negotiations!! I just give in for an easy life ^_^:hugs:

@LBHIFI while I was reviewing the recording of you and Bill, I noticed that neither of you had a Heart Rate Monitor on and I know Bill has ordered one.

I checked through the recordings and almost everyone is using one, apart from you, @TurboTommy and @Gaileb

Have you guys thought about using one? I know it's selfish of us spectators, but it is good to see this info!

General consensus seems to be that this one is good ... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/wahoo-tickr-heart-rate-monitor-for-iphone-and-android/

They seem to sell them in the Apple stores as well! ;)

Be careful as there is also a more expensive TICKR Run and a TICKR X

The Garmin one is a little cheaper, but only ANT+.

I hope you don't mind my cheeky suggestion... :shy:

Geoff

I actually have the garmin one Geoff. I think (with a bit of guidance...), the battery just needs replacing. I wasn't in a mad rush to get it sorted. But knowing how much effort you put in, and how much, judging from the courses you pick you like seeing us suffer! I'll sort it tomorrow morning for your entertainment purposes :okay:

I know nothing about my pulse, and I am a little curious to be honest.
I think a found a good deal at the Apple Store of all places, so I have now ordered the Wahoo TICKR (£ 41, delivery included)

I intended using a heart monitor at my last handicap ride but forgot! I will get Richard to show me what to do next time if I remember. Memory gets worse with age so you may need to remind me lol

Talking of grooming...

I had tried to get some colleagues to go on a Ventoux trip this summer. Lots of talk and then they all wimped out. So i found this below and 4-5 of us are booked on it. There is, i understand, space for 1 or 2 more. Pick up in Kent by mini van and bike trailer and over the channel and the pretty much as per the link. Not all meals coz we are doing it a bit cheaper but brekkie and accommodation and travel etc. No caravan. Nor bra's. But don't let that put anyone off;) It means no jabs either.
I won't feel abandoned if there's no interest...honest.

Thanks, Bobinski. Just seen a spike of activity on our TdF trip page so thought I'd better take a look! Thanks for posting for us and hello to everyone else on cyclechat.net. We can get another couple of people on this trip - no problem. And we've got others going to other cool places, e.g. Mont Ventoux and our own place in the lovely Dordogne, etc. Much more via the site given. Looking forward to the Grand Départ.

Yes, I'm not impressing anyone with my short term memory, but doing a little better with long term memory. Still remember pi with 14 digits . Pretty useless information to carry along and would gladly dump a few digits to make place for remembering my purse when I go shopping.

Hands up who's a bit jealous of Rick now :hello:

I'm also very fortunate, my wife puts up a bit of a battle if only to have her say, but she ultimately lets me get my own way if its cycling related. That said I had to conceed on the Majorca trip that I wouldn't go with the club, but take the family and do a few days cycling with my son. I think that was an excellent compromise.

I should say my wife does let me get away with quite a lot actually - always going to be a bit of negotiations when you have young-ish children though!

(Don't tell my wife I'm admitting this!!)
