i use a heavy giant cx bike on the turbo and for winter road rides, the carbon is for the spring and summer rides. The carbon is due to be replaced late this year, negotiations with the wife are still ongoing as to how much the budget is, we are currently miles apart.
How all good domestic negotiations start. The art of it now is to get your valuations to actually cross. If you can do that, you are truly a Jedi Negotiating master. The last sentence you utter needs to be something along the lines of, 'no, I don't need to spend that much!'
I haven't quite achieved this status yet, nor likely to if I'm honest.

I have a bike fund which the Mrs knows about, just not how much is in there.. Consultancy Commision is a beautiful and separately paid thing

I've been doing a 1500 mile 3 week solo credit card tour every year for the last 10 years and used my old VR trainer to get marginally in shape using the same 6 courses. When I had to cancel a trip last fall because of work I used it as an excuse to upgrade to the Bkool. It has now been so addictive I'm riding 5 or 6 days a week and am in better shape than I have been in a long time. Ive never been competitive before, never even rode with anyone else but this group has turned out to be a blast.
1500 miles in 3 weeks?!? Must be awesome doing something like that. Would love to do something big someday for charity perhaps.

Good to know there's some other solo riders about. :okay:

The saving grace is that I didn't pay for my carbon bike, it was funded through a 'long service award' by my employer, and the commuter cross bike was cheapish (£500), and we don't talk of all the clothing and accessories . I will be donating the current carbon to my teenage son, he just needs to grow a couple of inches, otherwise it will become the winter bike and the cx will be permanently attached to the turbo.

I have a load of 10 speed bontrager wheels available since I'm moving everything to 11 speed. May also have some new giant pr-2 wheels unused with tyres and tubes in a few days, along with a saddle and crank!

Also got a garmin 500, some dura ace 9000 carbon pedals, ultegra 6770 di2 front and rear derailleurs, oh and a ladies hybrid trek I should really sell!

Too busy on Bkool to sell any of it! :-)

Well yesterday n=1

Today n=2

Though my wife seemed to like her brief test ride on the Defy rather too much, and mentioned perhaps selling her bike ...

All good from my point of view!
