My eyes kept being drawn to the in/out antics of my newly fitted 52T BioPace chainring doing its stuff - my no longer secret weapon!
My 1988 Dawes Stratos had come with 170mm 105 cranks and 52/42T BioPace rings. I'd swapped the 42T for a 38T (round) fairly early on, and it was all still in my bike stash. On Tuesday I fitted them to my turbo bike (2001 Claude Butler Pro), and have since completed a couple of rides - one with 2800' of climbing. The late great Sheldon Brown was keen on them and his web page on them was going well until he got to mixing them with round rings. Although he reckoned they were good for spinning, he thought when mixed it was the inner one that should be BioPace. Only the big ring is BioPace on my set up, which is what you'd be in when spinning out. No ramps, no pins and outer ring out of round, yet it still changes nicely both ways. 52T outer with a short cage and chainstays is a proper badass look!
