Great race guys. Hadn't even seen the posts about drafting before the race but was glad of the company/assistance. Worked great!!:hugs: Was very nearly not having a go as I stupidly went for a 6 mile run when I got home from work but had enough in me to hang in for a while. You're right Bill about that small hill. Anything like that and I just drift off the back!!!:surrender: Pleased with my position all things considered.

One more thing. Had a large kebab and chip at 5:30. I used to get an allergic reaction where my skin just comes out in a rash and is crazy itchy. It gets triggered by eating rich foods and then exercising heavy. Guess whats happened this evening for the first time in about 15 years.

Rick, you're supposed to get all those excuses in before the race, remember?!

Can you take the "l" out of boblinski?

Sorry AAAC but I like to think of you bristling with energy, like a battery, hence AAA!

i!ll get my coat....

Sorry, I wear glasses.

It coulds have been worse if I had put a "p" in it!

May I ask what the reason for the handle Bobinski is?

My pleasure Bridgy. ...drafting deffo works. I was hoping you were going to bridge those couple of seconds so I could use you...oops ...share the work with you to keep our deficit down. I was behind AAAC for a bit after the start but his summarily left me for dead....

Bridgy we need to get our own TTT going next time. :training:

Yeah I think we missed a trick there as we were only a few seconds apart the whole race

Some tips:

1. Irrespective of the starting gradient get yourself in top gear at the start and pedal like crazy as soon as it starts - you' ll get a big initial speed and power boost until everything settles down

2. Like me, you'll still probably get dropped by the really fast guys as they can hold this power for that bit longer, but at least you'll be in as good a position as possible compared to riders who are a similar pace to you

3. Don't start pedalling too soon whatever you do as it's very frustrating being stuck on the line as everyone else disappears up the road, waiting for the flywheel on your turbo to stop! (I speak from experience on this one!)

This is absolutely true irrespective of the starting gradient. Have the sound switched up and get ready to stand on your pedal a fraction of a second after you hear the 4th beep. Then keep it nailed for as long as you can because in a way this is the most important part of the race.

Thanks I'll try that next time and see what happens

Well that was a bit better for my own performance apart from:
1. Still pedaling when the clock was at zero thinking it would give me the slingshot affect like in the Chain gang Handicap races..........being stuck on the line for a few seconds while i watched everyone disappear...........:banghead:
2. Having to make a phone call at a vital stage as i was trying to get a draft going with Andy i think?.........as my computer wanted to do an update and restart in 5 minutes.....as i cant reach it while i ride, i had to call the wife and get her to come out to the garage to turn the bloody update off!!!

All in all a very enjoyable ride though and even tried the "Blue Number Freewheeling" technique a couple of times and it seemed to work:okay:

Well done to the fast group, great time guys.:notworthy:

I think AAAC was just toying with us.....

I don't think he was!.

I took my HRM band off whilst we were sat at the start line as I had to go to the boys room and I had put it on over my bibs but left it in the bathroom.
I was absolutely b*llocksed at the end from chasing you guys so its a shame I took it off otherwise you would have seen that in my stats.

I had some tele assistance from BKool and my null setting was the equivalent of 0.7mm out which does not sound a lot but as the magnets are circular then the area presented to the breaking disc increases relative to the magnet diameter squared particularly whilst the first half of the magnet is being presented.
As a result I have been slowed down a bit.

The other bad news is they tell me I have an early BKool Pro that cannot be upgraded to FE-C without being reworked. They are hopefuly going to give me a price but to be honest thats why I bought the Pro bits in the first place so I am double P'd off now

I also started the session of a bit nonchalantly as I wasn't origninaly in a really competative mood so I wound it up a bit more slowly today.
But then seeing folk 'up the road' stirred up my competitiveness and I gave chase.
However no matter how hard I tried anything I gained on the flat and climbs I lost on the descents, now kicking myself for not picking up my 52T Chainring from Argos Click and Collect today.
Looking at the stats it was at about 9.1km that I was almost on your tails going into a climb and I relaxed a bit and missed the slingshot inot the climb and you all shot off up the hill and my deficit went from a few seconds to 30.
I think I got very close a couple of times before that and then lost ground again on the next descent.
Please tell me guys wer gaining and advantage from drafting because you were certainly knocking the wind out of me!

Did anyone record that?

^_^

First name Bob and Polish surname finishing with "ski" prompted the future Mrs B to put the 2 together and add "in" a bit of filler so, bobinski!

Really looking forward to joining in a rerun of this Saturday!
