Bill, sorry I couldn't join you. I felt tempted to swap the water bottle with a pint of beer and join in, but my wife said "enough with all this cycling".

No worries Lars. I thought perhaps no one would join in with the weather as it is.:sun:

But in the end you did join me as it happens ;)

On a climb it would win hands down, the problem would come elsewhere, as it is limited to 25 kph and would stop assisting above this. Then it's just a heavy mountain bike.

On Alpe d'Huez or Ventoux though, it could average 25 kph up it, as it would kick out 250 W of assistance and a fit rider could provide another 250 W or more. 500 watts average should make about 15-16 mph. Less than 30 minutes up Alpe d'Huez would hardly tax the rider or the battery! Coming down again would be fun as well.

If they release a proper road bike version, with no suspension, drop bars, and about 5kg less than the mtb one I'd find it hard to resist. As it is, a mtb bike that can fly up steep climbs and with a range of 40-60 miles but needs no license, insurance, registration, petrol, minimal maintenance ... Yes please!

Geoff

P.S. His is the £2400 Trek Powerfly+ 7 hard tail. Nice looking mtb.

Yes, I agree with that. Easily win uphill but probably lose out o the downhill or even flat if the motor cannot kick in. I believe there are de-restricting kits to solve that problem so you can get the full 300watts + whatever the rider can make, in any conditions. They're certainly cheap enough now and could be very good as a commuting bike for those not so keen on pedalling up-hills.

Great to see you are all plugging away. Everyone seems to be improving too. Gotta love Bkool. I am still labouring under a virus so cannot join in and I am very jealous. Strange isn't it?!? Jealous of not also exposing myself to pain! Hope to join you all sometime next week.

Gentlemen, I can only apologise for my extended, unannounced leave of absence. Just seems like there has been too much to do and less hours in which to do them.
I have just about seen off my cold, which has plagued me for two bloody weeks now, in which time, I think I have only completed one bike ride.
Attempted one BKool ride, but the heat cooked me in 15 minutes, so went to bed and cried myself to sleep. Saturday was an extended wedding party, which made Sunday a write off too, last Thursday and this Thursday I have Governers meetings, so can't participate then either.
But, I plan to leap aboard this evening, and kick start my training again. Must admit the ride I did Friday, felt pretty good, so hopefully not too much form lost.
Took a while to catch up on the posts, but as ever, makes for interesting reading, and a real pleasure to see Geoff still posting, and even renewing membership just to watch.
LB scares me a bit, and I aim to stay out of his way, so as to avoid any humiliating defeats at his hands.
On my brief 15 minute Turbo ride, I too noticed the estimated completion timer talking nonsense, which was really off putting. Hope they've done something about it.

Its that time of the year guys, the sun is coming up earlier and going down later and the ability to actually talk to fellow cyclists rather than the usual heaving gurgle to the wife as you drop your snickers is becoming more of an attraction.^_^

After doing my first race on thursday, i cant see myself slogging up the Virtual D'Huez in the week preceding so the BKool may become more of a recovery tool for a bit, that being said im due to move the family up north shortly so then i may have no option but more turbo less real ride for a bit! :shy:

I've also fallen into the trap of getting some rollers for warmups...

Either way, the inevitable weather will turn back and at least this year i will not sulk about the impending lack of cycling:dance:

It's good to have you back Adam. Your virtual presence has been missed. I think everyone's cut back a bit, me included, with the heat, and better offers elsewhere.
I've been onto bkool about this timer problem and they're admitting to nothing as usual. They're telling me to try this and try that and send them reports and try different rides, which is a bit silly if its a problem everyone has since their last update. I suggest we all hassle them and maybe they'll do something about it.
Someone here suggested riding in the heat wearing a soaked T-shirt which I tried and it worked really well. Not ideal but it beats the heck out of heat exhaustion.
I know what you mean about the scary LB. I was intimidated at first too, but decided to combat him with mind games. Try to make sure he gets bkool messages saying, "you have been beaten by Adski" on his home page. :evil:Draft his ghost the whole ride then go for it in the last minute. Not that I would do that of course,:whistle: but if you need to as a last resort:giggle:.

Well to put it plainly farking Mental...

It was a 40km race at Mallory Park, mass start 94 riders on the gas. It started damn hard as everyone was just trying to sprint off the chicane so you would get this concertina effect of slow SPRINT slow SPRINT. By the end the main pack average over 30 miles was 26mph av.

Once the rhythm settled it was just a case off keeping focussed and staying on the pack, a lot was strategy which i didn't have for the first one which had be slipping off the back which was draining and eventually spread the pack.

Final bend was a bunch sprint which had a pretty tasty crash of 7 or 8 bikes..
All in all a hell of an experience, to be that close in a pack at 30mph and what can i say..... im back there this week :ninja:

I'm still around as well, but I cannot climb on the turbo when the weather is so good so not touched it in ages, I doubt i'll subscribe again until the Autumn.
I still see a few of you in Strava anyway, hopefully i'll see Geoff back to his usual self in a couple of months as well.
I still pop in and see whats going on but good luck in your leagues and winding each other up ^_^

Sounds a bit addictive!
Thanks for the details. Heard similar stories about the way races pan out like that. Bound to be scary at first!

Some day...some day...
