Just one quick query, having got back on the BKOOL for the first few rides in a long time...why have I jumped up from Amateur 1 to Amateur 6? Surely, a normal progression would be from 1 to 2 to 3 etc. before reaching 6.

Its done from a scale measured against either a 20 minute test or how much power you average over 30 mins in a logged ride.

Its bit bit flawed sometimes, i can vouch for that

Another of the big mountain goats out the way for me which thankfully only leaves the shorter ones. Just as well as i had hoped things would be getting easier but instead found col du glandon the hardest yet and struggled to keep the power up.

Will my power improve if I keep doing these mountain goat stages or should I be doing something different to increase my power? Also how do yo guys motivate yourself to stay on the trainer during a tough ride? Willpower or do you have something to take your mind off it? So tempting to get off when the estimated time to go is sitting at over an hour when I am already half an hour in!

I think increasing power comes best from hitting the mountains. Have to say, when I was doing Ventoux I felt like giving up once it got over an hour. Not the longest stage I've ever done but certainly the hardest! It really helps if you're chasing or just ahead of someone. If you're on your own its a bit soul destroying. I was chasing Stig, but I crumbled with 30 minutes to go and he finished 4 minutes ahead of me.

So the impression here is that the cadence sensor in Bkool Pro is a bit off? I´ll do a little manual counting today to check.

So you feel if i just keep plugging away at mountain goat stages along with some top 100ish climbs should increase my power over time?

Anyone else have a crazy high heart rate when doing these climbs? My average for Ventoux and Glandon were both 180+ which seems very high!

Yes your power will definitely increase if you keep doing the above leagues. By quite a bit I would think. If you have any energy in between these rides you can fill in with other big climbs but at a slower pace. It's vertical miles that count really.

It sure will.

Yep, mine does, over 170 and at near enough 53y old I do wonder if I should keep it a bit lower. Some would say don't worry. I have found a few things help, firstly a mega fan blowing at full blast only foot or so from my face and secondly a lower cadence and higher gear. I am having to unlearn being a spinner to get power. Actually not so hard when I am grinding up D'huez or similar for an hour:blush:.
