Hi, I've just joined your forum today as i see that you have a bkool group, my name is chris turner if that could be accepted. I'm using a standard trainer not a smart one so I'm not sure if I'll be able to race with you guys. Do you all use the powered type turbo?

I'm a newcomer this year so don't expect much of a challenge from me yet

@RickB I have ridden 2 chaingang rides so far - stage 3 I did live and that shows up in the league OK, and has a trophy symbol next to it in my activities.

Stage 1 I did solo, and is still not showing in the league for that stage? I am wondering if I did something wrong in the way I selected the stage? It shows in my activities with a "group" symbol as opposed to the trophy, which does link to the chaingang group - it's just not showing in the league?

Not wanting to hassle you about it - I just want to make sure I'm doing it right for future reference! Cheers

No hassle at all Bridgy - happy to help.

Group symbol doesnt count towards the league I'm afraid. Only the cup symbol does.

In the chaingang there is usually only one stage active to count towards the league table at any one time (bit of an overlap at the weekend where there can be two active as one open and another closes). You can only do active stages to get listed on the league table - active sessions are listed at the top of the League listings. Stage 1 and 2 have expired at this point so not able to count them in now. Don't worry though as after next weeks stage there's a new chaingang league starting for December.

The Mountain goat league, for example, opens a new stage each week, but the previous one doesnt expire, so you can go back and do them again (or for the first time!) whereas the Chaingang rides expire after each week to encourage the group race aspect.

Hope that doesn't confuse you further! ^_^

Yes that does make sense Rick - thanks for explaining!

So How long do the chaingang rides remain active? Is it just until the end of the re-run on a Saturday?

Actually Rick, I've just re-read your post and think you've already answered that question! Cheers
^_^
its not an exact science -as Bkool adds or subtracts time from the beginning/end of the dates I set - and every time I go in to edit a stage they add/subtract a bit more, so it gets a little confusing! I added a day here and there just to be on the safe side! :addict:

Well as you say, best to do them live if at all possible anyway. If my replacement trainer lasts more than 4 rides (:cursing:) I'll be all over the December league rides!

I like wiggle, but bkool units from them do tend be faulty for some reason or other. I had two from wiggle then decided to get my latest one direct from bkool. My suspicion is that wiggle has early stock from before they ironed out the faults. I could be wrong there but there does seem to have been too many sent back from cycle chat members to be just bad luck.

Interesting....i purposely bought mine from Wiggle because I trusted their aftersales service if something did go wrong - and they price-matched another online shop I hadn't previously heard of who had it cheaper than anyone else I could find at the time (£350).

I was partly prepared for a potential problem as I knew Monte's had previously broken - his was from Wiggle too...

I've had a replacement trainer from Wiggle now for at least the last 4 weeks, so far no problems (fingers crossed)...

Just figured out there's a difference between the 1 and the classic...doh:laugh:sitting here waiting on my new bike...wish it would hurry up:bicycle:

Thanks, I would say the unpowered version puts me at a bit of a disadvantage but I'm no expert in power calculations.

I did a time trial back (my 1st) back in August. Completed it in 30:26 in real life and it took me 49 minutes on the turbo last night. I was doing some fast intervals as well and without the wind resistance you'd think it would be faster but not so.

I currently am using my dads cycleops older magnet powered machine. I did some research and found that it can be upgraded to have a knob (other than myself) to adjust the resistance.I don't have this part but I think the problem is that I have it set to the middle resistance on the turbo itself when bkool maybe just expects me to be at the lowest but I'll fiddle around as time goes by.

I love the bkool app, only tried it a few times and as I don't have a laptop.

I have it set up so that I can use my mobile phone and my chromecast so that I can have it on my tv. Just connect to my heart rate sensor and cadence through the bluetooth on my phone and I'm ready to go.

Only started cycling in may this year, must say I actually find the turbo very good especially with bkool stopping me getting bored. I like the fact that you don't get any kind of a break like you would out on the open road hopefully it will help me a bit next year.

Glad I found this forum as well today due to it seems really good :-)
